Your favorite unknown 1970s Funk acts? There are so many Funk bands that never got their credit ... thousands of them have released one single and disappeared into obscurity. This thread is dedicted to those who've actually released albums. These are my favorite.
Black Heat have released three albums on Atlantic Records. The first two are my favorite. Black Heat - Black Heat Black Heat - No time to burn Black Heat - Keep on runnin' The Counts started off as the Fabulous Counts, then released three more albums as The Counts. The Fabulous Counts - Jan Jan The Counts - What's up front that counts The Counts - Love Sign The Counts - Funk Pump The Paris based group Cane and Able released two extremely rare albums. Cane and Able - Cane and Able Cane and Able -Relating a message to you Rasputin's Stash is a weird Funk group out of Miami. They've made two albums. Rasputin's Stash - Rasputin's Stash Rasputin's Stash - The devil made me do it Sir Joe Quarterman from D.C. has released only one album which is one of my favorite Funk albums of all times. You are lucky if you got the OG pressing. Finally, one of the greatest groups ever .. S.O.U.L. (Sounds of Unity and Love). They've done two albums which are both extremely rare. S.O.U.L. - What it is S.O.U.L. - Can you feel it

These two are really not that 'unknown', but they were both very short lived, releasing only one album each

But the "What it is" reissue is on Soulbrother Records, and their vinyl quality is pretty wack, which is why I'd recommend against it.

Shouldn't forget about "The Beginning of the end"
Everyone knows their "Funky Nassau" album ... But I like their second, self-titled album even better.

Nice picks, bringing back memories. A few more.
...Oneness of Juju ...Eddie Harris ...Cymande ...Funk Inc. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Great picks as well, Neal. I agree with Oneness of Juju and Funk Inc. Cymande are cool too but I can't really feel them all the way. Their songs miss that special something that gets me excited ...
But what Eddie Harris? Yeah, he made some funky albums in the '70s, but I wouldn't classify him as "unknown Funk act".

Since your are bringing up War related artists ... are you into Senor Soul from East L.A.? Charles Miller started that group in the late 60s and they did two albums and released two 45s ...
