As a music lover, it really is amazing the kind of disregard that that a talented band/singer get in the face of all the trash that litters the music world confused This has always pained me about this band. Live they were absolutely incredible and the fact that they rely on their abilities, their music translates perfect live because they are doing the same thing onstage as they have done in the studio.

It should also be noted that the BNH were one of the first groups to promote a new genre of music that was very powerful in the Europe of the early 1990s .. ACID JAZZ. The Heavies started on Eddie Piller's Acid Jazz Records. I still have the Totally Wired compilation which featured their first track (an instrumental Funk tune, by the way). I got it in 1988, right after it was released ... and I didn't think too much of that track at first. biggrin

touched What a wonderful experience! I didn’t think there could be anyone who enjoyed BNH as much as me. So much of what you expressed about their music and N’Dea resonated with me. The first time I saw them I was amazed at how much energy she had. That woman RUNS that band.

I was sooo hurt when they broke up. I know exactly what you mean about their latest effort too but I’m so glad they are back together.

Music, especially live music can really touch, heal, change a person’s life. It can be a profound experience if you truly love live performances and believe in the power of the energy that comes from it. I’m so glad you had an awesome time but you were seeing BNH so there’s no way you couldn’t have a good time! dancing jig

Well I can imagine how exciting it must be for your to read a post like this because I would absolutely flourish if someone devoted a thread like this here lol

You know, there was a point where she was in this freakin zone and she looked totally posessed clapping lol It was great to just see her owning every second of the time she spent on that stage biggrin

I was sooo hurt when they broke up. I know exactly what you mean about their latest effort too but I’m so glad they are back together.

N'Dea said during the concert that they were back together so I'm glad that it's going to stay that way pray I think sometimes as fans we can be selfish and not realize or take into account that sometimes people need to stop what they are doing for very legitimate reasons. Throwing a fit about money, or control or anything like that does not qualify! lol But if someone needed to raise their kids, or if they are facing some personal hardship or they need to grow in other more important ways, then I can really understand why someone would choose to not be a part of such magic. But she was just silent for too long.

Yeah, at the time I had no idea that she had actually interrupted her solo career to become a part of this band and was just destroyed that she left them. But she did so to resume what she had intended to do all along. nod And really, I think she needed that extra time to develop her own voice so to speak. I think her solo is absolutely stellar. Very different than the Heavies stuff, but very fulfilling in it's own way nod I will touch on that album in a bit smile

I remember meeting india.arie and Robin Thicke and being able to tell them what their music has meant to me. India got tears in her eyes. I know people blow off Robin Thicke's music but the lyrics to one of his songs helped me get through a deep depression.

it is always so amazing reading your writing, Richard. mushy

!!!!! mushy kisses hug Those are for you just because smile

!!!!! mushy kisses hug Those are for the experience you got to have with India and Robin! excited I remember when you talked about meeting India and I thought that was simply amazing. I was so happy for you and for your experience. I was sort of jealous redface It couldn't have happened to a more beautiful woman though mushy

So far I have had the opportunity to tell 2 of my musical heroes what their music means to me. N'Dea and the lead from Inner City, you know the songs Good Life and Big Fun? I got to tell her what her music did for my life as well mushy I did meet Me'Shell N'Degeocello at an in-store appearance for Comfort Woman and she was signing autographs and stuff and I blew it. Instead of taking the proper few minutes to express myself, I chose to say simply thank you and to tell her she has no idea what her art has done for our lives. She was very gracious, thanked me kindly and I moved on.

Now the reason I chose to keep it extremely brief is because there were people in line that were acting like total stalkers and I didn't want to be that to her. I really wanted to respect her space but now that I look back I should have beat them bitches and taken the time that they squandered just being asses disbelief I could kick myself for letting that slip by. But next time, and there will be a next time, I will seize the opportunity to its fullest nod

Wow.

You know what, Richard? I've always enjoyed the BNHs (especially looking at Jan wink ), but I never really thought about how good their music made me feel... until this thread. Their stuff is just good, quality feel-good music. Solid musicianship, respectable writing, great vocals. Nothing fluffy, but definitely lifting. Who couldn't use something like that in their life?

After reading your post, I'm gonna revisit their catalog and probably replace my damaged and lost stuff of theirs.

Thanks, bruh... and I'm thrilled to hear you've been so blessed by their music. hug

One of the best concerts I went to years ago , they were promoting Brother Sister and N'dea just ripped the roof straight off , pure contagious energy and the voice of an angel and a smile that can brighten up the whole damned room .

Her stage presence is just amazing. She was non-stop, dancing and singing. I mean for real dancing and singing. clapping

absolutely true. they came to the southern part of america ( not south america but a southern part of america) that far, and no one hardly stood in line for their autographs, and I believe this was their first time to an essence festival. it was held in texas. But like I said they did well the night they performed. you know, some of these entertainers you can see on a regular and you can get their autographs anytime. but when groups like these will travel like that and no one really notices them is really shocking. And you are right. the studio sound just solidifies what they can do live and no straying away from how they do their music to steer the audience in a different direction.

glad you are doing well. hugs back to ya. stay this way is a fav and BNH.

I got it in 1988, right after it was released ... and I didn't think too much of that track at first. biggrin

OK, there are two truths about this band. They are talented as hell and their music is fonkay in its own right. But without the right lead, they can be forgettable. You can only rely on instrumentals to take you so far, you know? lol The difference between the stuff they recorded with Jay Ella Ruth and the reworks with N'Dea is just absolute night and day. Her voice is the engine to the band's gas. With the weaker singers it's like pouring gas on a bicycle and expecting to hit 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds nod

I got into other Acid Jazz acts, like Incognito, because of this band. That genre is/was very fulfilling to me. Bring back the soul and live feel that was missing from the pre-fab music that was happening at the time nod
