NAMM 2008 photos

Here's the link to my NAMM 2008 photo album.
http://www.flickr.com/pho...92091@N00/

Main subjects are LIVING COLOUR performance and PFUNK ALL-STARS, Greg Thomas and Bennie Cowan, at the Conn-Selmer Booth.

I got plenty of pics of the dancers that spiced up the LC set. razz

Also got casual moment with Blackbyrd, Mike and guitarist Neal Faison at the Tascam booth (I wasn't thinking and missed photo ops of him with Vernon & Mike).

Gimme a few days and I'll add some commentary into a photo essay

Thanks for the photos.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Hanging out with Vernon again was a lot of fun.
And thanks for bringing "Kid Funkadelic" by...thumbs up!

My enclosed demo room, which helps to shield you from the non-stop cacophony that is NAMM (not to mention the comfy couch) was an added incentive for old friends to stop by.

...the great guitarist Phil Upchurch, his wife Sonya and legendary producer Jerry Peters.

...Nikki Glaspie (drummer for Beyonce) and my musical partner Longineu Parsons trading "Berzerkly" stories (Berklee School of Music in Boston)

...Marva King (got the Betty Davis vibe goin' on.)

Herbie Hancock - no comment necessary.

GrandMixer DXT - Iconic DJ ("Rockit") and audio transfer specialist (Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall)

Leland Sklar - bassist for Toto, James Taylor, Phil Collins, etc.

John Blackwell - drums for Prince & Justin Timberlake

Morris Hayes - keys for Prince

Eric Krasno - guitar for Soulive

Tom Trujillo - guitarist for Mandrill

David Isaac (3 time Grammy Award winning producer)

Last but not least, at the very end of the show Marcus Miller came by and had a ball mixing the original tracks from Shaft (provided by Concord Music)

That's all I can remember at the moment.
After 2 back-to-back trade shows (CES & NAMM), my brain is toast.

Didn't really get to see much of anything being confined to the "aquarium" doing demos.

I did slip away Thursday evening to catch Soulive at The Grove.

Oh, and I did get see see a performance at the Native Instruments booth that included John Blackwell & Mike Scott.
Ran into Blackbyrd McKnight there.

But gear? No.

Hey TA, how was that Tascam amp?
One of my boys went and he told me there were surprisingly a lot of women there. He also said Slash had a whole fan club following him around the even. I knew I should have gone. Damn.
Looks like it was a hoasis up in there. nod

Thanks for sharing the pics, Pfunkjazz! I hope you enjoyed yourself.

The amp is OK for certain things.
A good JC-120 clone.

I might bitch & moan because of having to work there but it's a fun show.
You should make it a point to attend next year.
I can't see why any musician wouldn't want to check it out.

Hoasis indeed. smile

Did anybody catch any good performances (aside from the LC/Kings X mix)? What's the hot gear coming up? I've seen a lot of new pedals online and a few guitars. I didn't see many pics of new amps, though.

Greg Thomas & Bennie Cowan did a demo at the Conn-Selmer booth.

This young brother was rocking the Senneheiser booth, in a Corey Glover fashion. I think his name is Ryan Shaw

Sorry no amps or gear.
I flaked out on Thursday's Soulive gig.
Well, helping one's daughter with her homework isn't really flaking, is it?

Interesting that Peters keeps coming up, I just heard this for the first time last week---- his solo album from 1972, on Mercury records:
