I think I've listened to this disc something like ten times since yesterday. I can already imagine the live show opening with Amerykhan Promise. The band jamming, the back up singers (including her kid sister) singing the main line for a few minutes until Ms. Badu finally struts on stage with her big ol' hair and (like the last time I saw her) her big Gucci purse around her arm and just stands there while we all go wild and crazy. She doesn't actually start singing until almost the end of the song and the noise from the crowd finally subsides....**sigh** "...literal people are scary, man literal people scare me out there trying to rid the world of its poetry while getting it wrong fundamentally down at the church of "look, it says right here, see!" - ani difranco

I just finished New Amerykah and I'm just blown away by it. I knew it was going to be good when I heard "Honey" on the radio but I didn't expect it to knock me the fuck out! I'm almost left speechless by this CD. It's dark yet not so dark that you leave the CD depressed. It's weird, which I expect and love about Erykah and most importantly, it's HELLA FUNKY! I totally didn't expect that one AT ALL! I actually had tears well up by the time it got to Honey and only Prince has done that kind of thing to me before. This is such an incredible CD and I'm about to listen to it again. This is a CD that MUST NOT be slept on! I'm telling people about this one and I'm ready for Part 2. I hope Erykah come to NYC soon cause I'm making it a point to go see her after this. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

The song Amerikan Promise put me in tears today on the bus. I couldnt wait for another artist to come out with something thought provoking and funky. And I feel honored to have heard this album. I really do, she doesnt know how i feel. [Edited 2/27/08 8:45am] Straight Jacket Funk Affair

co sign on this whole damn thread.
I haven't felt like this over a CD in YEARS. Its bittersweet to me that it isn't P who is causing this emotion. I am grateful that it is badu. We have been waiting forever. The wait is over. thank you thank you thank you Erykah. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

there are no words. i put this cd on right after an argument with my closest family member last night - "me" just about did me in right after going off on my lil sis.
"that hump" is just too much for me right now. "honey" i love it more and more every spin. those words fit my feelings to a TEE right now. "master teacher" - god how damn HOT is that breakdown in the middle to the jazzier beat, with "i stay woke" over and over "The Healer" - can't wait till she opens her next show with this one! a modern musical masterpiece. love the unfinished sounds. "solder" - fucking phenomenal "the cell" - not great on first listen, hoping this one catches me more - i think it would go great with "danger" in concert "nu amerykah" - love the intro, reminds me of "grindhouse" - the blaxploitation vibe is awesome. funky as shit. too bad it's just one big long sample with not enough vocals from Badu tho. all in all - i don't know where to rank this one in the Badu masterpieces - i don't instantly love every song the way i did with WWU - but it took me a long time to warm up to "Mama's Gun" too, and that's now my all time fave album. i will say the lack of a coherent melody on some songs disappoints me. What's up with "My People" - how the fuck did that make the cut? She was smoking some super shit that session apparently. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

wow... My People is one of my tops takes me back to "Bump It" from WWU love the animalistic sounds & shit input from Bilal is heard all throughout this album before I read the credits & saw that he contributed vocals... I JUST KNEW I'd heard Bilal in spots and I was RIGHT! My People is that crack to me I love the chant style stuff that she does... LOVE that side of her very Joni Mitchell/Chaka Khan "Dreamland"ish I love it you'll grow into it I'm sure how do you like Telephone? because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

It says it was co written and produced Edwin Birdsong. "Cola Bottle Baby" Daft Punk used his sample for "Harder Better Faster Stronger". It didnt have any sample credits; although it doesnt even sound like it was made in 2008, trying to wonder was that done on purpose or is it really a sample. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
