I am in love with this album! Reminds me sometimes of Doug Carn. Love this lyrical rant from the end of Twinkle:
I don’t have to tell you things aren’t good Everybody knows things aren’t good We know the air is unfit to breathe and our foods unfit to eat Young punks are running the street No one knows just what to do, and there’s no end to it The dollar buys a penny’s worth and banks are going under Papa’s keeping a gun under the counter We sit watching our idiot boxes While some local anchorman tells us that today we’ve had 18 murders and 80 violent crimes As if that were the way things are supposed to be We know times are bad, worse than bad People are crazy! It’s like everything everywhere is going utterly mad So we never leave our homes We sit in our comfy abodes while the world is getting smaller And we say, "Come on! At least leave us alone in our family rooms. Let me have my microwave and flat screen and my 20" wheels and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone!" But I’m not going to leave you alone! I want you to get angry! I don’t want you to riot. I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to write your Senator, because I won’t know what to tell you to tell him. I don’t know what to do about the recession and the inflation and the crime in the street. All I know is that you’ve got to get mad. You’ve got to say, "I’m a human being, dammit! My life has value!" ... [Edited 2/26/08 5:49am]

I can’t wait to figure out all that she’s saying in it. I know in concert it's got to be hot. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

OMG! This is what I've been waiting for. I got my copy at Fry's and I had to dig for it. But yeah, Janet was displayed properly. I haven't purchased an actual CD in years. I've been getting my music from itunes in recent years but I just had to have my hard copy. I LOVE ERYKAH! I just know whatever shows she puts on for all this new music will be amazing. I already have her on my ticketmaster alert. My ass will be there front and center. I'm taking Supa too. Poor boy has never experienced the magic of a Badu show. I didn't know that. You're welcome! I think it's cool as hell that she used it (even tho she did tweak it a bit to make it reference more current things, like flat screens and 20" wheels. ). Oh, and by the way...HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERYKAH!

What an AMAZING birthday present girl!
Wow, This is some MOODY shit! Not surprised considering she's ruled by the fish How absolutely insane and ABSURD is this album?! I will continue to praise Miss Badu as one of my biggest musical heroes. Now while an album every 5 years is one the drought side, if it meant that she gave quality quality quality, then I can get down with that. But part 2 drops in the Summer so no drought this year! I know I am not alone in praising the fact that she is a VOICE for those that have none This is going to take many spins to unfold but man, well worth the wait. Well well worth it. Loved that Bilal made and appearance Hip Hop has needed to die for quite some time. It's as manufactured as the pop princess and has largely become nothing but a commodity. Let's Hope Erykah is set to lead it to it's grave so her resurrection can reign supreme Let this be the future 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
