Joe Tex = Underrated I made a thread about Willie Hutch's underration and the same applies for the great Joe Tex.
From the 60's all thew way to the early 70s, Joe Tex was one of the top Rhythm & Blues performers. Of course he was never at the top always overshadowed by the likes of Otis Redding, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, Wilson Pickett, Marvin Gaye and his arch nemeses James Brown. But dude had some hit's on him. Hold What You've Got, A Sweet Women, I Gotcha, Papa Was Too, Skinny Legs and All, One Monkey Don't Stop No Show, ect and those are just the hits. He had many LP cuts that were just as good as his chart hits, if not better like You Better Believe It Baby, I'll Never Do You Wrong, You Keep Her, Close The Door, Fresh Out of Tears, ect. Brother man should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. PRINCE: Always and Forever

The man had so much soul he fitted into any style he sung be it rock & roll, country, soul, funk and/or disco.
He was also one of the first "rappers" and one of soul music's most finest dancers. He definitely needs to be in the Hall of Fame.

Indeed. They say James Brown "incorporated" a bit of Tex's live act into his own gigs. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I can actually believe it. Joe got so pissed off at James, I don't think he managed to shake that off. James went on to international fame while he got sidetracked.

"Ain't gonna bump no more" has a good rythm but the lyrics are nasty towards fat women "Girly Man Man Man..... Kill her kill her kill her"

I dig Joe Tex. He's from right down the road. I still have my 45 copy of "I Gotcha" and have delighted in teaching that song to my kids as a fine example of real funk.
