Mostly old stuff;

De Dijk. Amsterdam’s resident band. Their lead singer Huub van der Lubbe always reminds me of Ian Curtis because of the way he LIVES his lyrics through body movements. His lyrics are also amazing. Here they perform Niemand In De Stad (No Soul In The City).

Kane is a band I cannot really get into, as their singer is a ‘love him or hate him’ kinda fella and he is too much for me to take often. But I fond myself liking this new song.

Krezip got big while they were still in their teens, when they were able to fill in an empty spot on the popular Pinkpop festival. One of the songs performed there became a huge smash hits. Then they fell away for a little time, but upon their return they had matured and they make fun music these days.

And this is ooooold. But it’s my most fave Dutch singers ever; from Amsterdam, singer Ramses Shaffy, huge in the 60’s becuz of his melancholic music and his ballads.

Then the Golden Earring. They made GREAT 80’s rock. They had a string of hits in the 70’s and 80’s that I love. In the 80’s the first Dutch band to use video clips to make it big.

My previous post also included The Dolly Dots. We sometimes say the Spice Girls stole the idea, but a producers-induced girls band like them is of all ages. It just happened that in the 70’s in Holland, there was a bunch of producers that thought; we need a blonde, a dark-skinned girl and a brunette. What they got was Luv. Their success paved the way for the Dolly Dots.


And this is just nostalgia to me; Anita Meijer’s The Alternative Way. Amazing voice. Even though later in life she started making cheesy songs, her first string of hits were grrrreat! And true, some of them are already cheesy, but they are amazing disco tracks.

Herman Brood was a rocker that was as famous for his drug intake as his music, but he got famous for his music. This is his biggest hit and still makes me nod my head.

Most famous band in Holland is Doe Maar (Go Ahead), They were thirty somethings in the 80’s and they catered to screaming teenage girls. They were the smart band; they quit when they were at their peak. They sing in Dutch, but I am sure that when you listen you can understand the appeal, partly, as the lyrics were political and sometimes sexually forward in a sweet way, but in the 80’s it was something when a singer was direct.
