There is a difference between soul and R'n'B, you know.

I think theres a problem with soul music as a whole at the moment. People will often say'he she has a great voice' but the music generally is so safe with lyrics so hackneyed. Great soul artists have something to say, most of those in the UK scene don't. I find most modern soul aural wallpaper the stuff that gets played in wine bars. I think thats the reason no one breaks through and sells records because right now there is no one good enough.

100% correct.

Surely more of an issue with R'n'B re hackneyed lyrics and aural wallpaper?

And no-one breaking through in soul? How about Amy Winehouse, Adele and Corinne Bailey Rae? Admittedly the poppier end...and I personally find Corinne's stuff to be a great cure for insomnia

It doesn't sound like you've checked out the links.

interestingly enough, I did an interview with LifeFM about the stance of UK Soul, check out www.myspace.com/harambe and get the full download.

Out of all the links, I been following Natalie for a few years as I worked with the same agency, met her producer Drew who's nice and her mate Oggie who is a real good mate of mine.

However, Tawiah is the FAR better vocalist and she eclipeses Amy when she seps for her when doing the Mark Ronson sessions ("valerie" et al.)

Personally I think that Tawiah even at only 20 or so, is one to watch for this year!

Listen to the broadcast (should be in the middle of the page and go from there).

This track turned me on to Natalie... the track "West Of Berlin" on my myspace page is about her as she's part hungarian (which I believe is West of Berlin).
