I think they are still important towards the success of a single. So yeah.

I can never find a station that actually plays videos. If I do stumble upon them, it's usually the top 10 crap that I can't stand anyway. I used to love watching them, but for me it never had anything to do with whether I liked the song or bought the cd. It still may have something to do with single sales though shrug

YouTube. Music Videos on demand. That's the only way. Who has time to sit thru a video show?
Videos are going no where. Many will probably get more laid back and intimate, I hope so. But I hope that the art pieces (Bjork, Madonna etc...) continue, also. I'm sure they will.

I am actively against music videos, unless they're concert performances.

One of my favorite new music artists, Mika did a video for each song he released and they were all fantastic and kept getting better and better. He also released a 45 for each one too, which is unheard of.

I don't think videos are dying off. I do think they are coming from a different medium which is the internet.

These two in particular come to mind...

I think the beauty of song is interpreting it in your own way, and associating it with something important in your life. For instance, ZZ Top's "Balinese" will always represent the night me and the head cheerleader watched submarine races.

I don't really want the artist's (or worse yet, some snotty director's) visual interpretation. I think it's a shame if people associate one of their favorite songs not with their own life experiences, but with a scene-cut-every-second frentic video.

As an art form I don't think music videos are dying. But as the marketing tool it once was through MTV and VH1, possibly. But we're still gonna be watching videos even if those networks are slowly descending into hell. And it's all thanks to the internet. wink

I've seen some very beautiful videos that compliment the song. Some videos have made me like the song even more.

For marketing in america at least that have really lost their importance, they are cool for longtime fans who just wanna see the new so and so, and that grew up on videos. But for the most part the "artistic" video makers are gone, very few even make interesting videos any more, and considering the costs and the way things are going now music industry wise, you are really better off saving that cash.

Maybe not. Maybe many are only over the sensationalism of it all...especially since the world is becoming more "real", thanks to YouTube and the like. As Spaceboy mentioned, the web is the place to see videos...this means they can be innovative inexpensively. It will probably mean more videos. They don't have to be over the top. Something like this is an even better marketing tool:

It seems to me that Michael went from making music videos to making mini-movies that happened to have a soundtrack.

He's not the only one that went that route.

I honestly am not interested in any music video unless it's a concert video.

I beg to differ on that. I think all he did was make them longer and into a big production often with Mixed results. I think other people did them better. It also depends on when you consider his career downturned. The 90's were very fruitful where videos are concerned.

That's not true. I think it's because he fired Quincy.

Man, I can't see myself paying for a music video unless it's on dvd. That's like throwing $2 out of the window. Especially when there are sites like guba.com that has free videos and paid movies.

True. That´s why we need him BACK for so many reasons.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Yes, they are.
And rumor has it that music experts, in hopes of alleviating the problem,
are gonna try breeding 'em in captivity.

The production budget drops are really visible from the latest batch. lol

I mean just look at the stuff we had in the early part of the decade, it got ridiculous. You couldn't have any kind of hit without a video that cost ten times more than any artist would make from roayalties to recoup them. So it's not just a bad thing for pop music if you consider that aspect of it.

CGI can kiss my ass though.
