But the Beatles had their 20 number 1's in a six year span, and Mariah's will (if acheived this year) have come over 18 years. I can name almost an endless selection of albums that have sold less than a hundredth of those amounts but are infinitely superior in every single way. However, there IS a place for throwaway pop and for my two cents Girls Aloud do that as good as anyone else around right now, to these UK ears anyway. I am, after all, an avid Backstreet Boys supporter. But I think it's important to keep it all in perspective. X cute pop band may be more mainstream or sell more records, but that does not mean they're actually any better or that we should take their top-of-the-charts position to mean anything in terms of quality.
