Marvin Gaye "Just To Keep You Satisfied"

I honestly think this (along with Distant Lover) is Marvin's best baby making jam ever! Shame it's so underrated compared to some of his other songs. Now from listening to the lyrics in the song i'm guessing that this was about his tumultuous relationship with his wife Jan, which I'm assuming was coming to an end at the time but anyway I love this song and for the record:

Just To Keep You Satisfied>>>>>Sexual Healing

Well excuuuuuse me, Timmay/Marvin Fan Extrodinaire rolleyes lol . I really thought it was about Janis . From what I've read about him, I never got the feeling he was truly in love Anna. I just thought she was more of a mother type figure to him boxed.

LOL... sensitive. razz

But seriously, yeah, it was about Anna. Regardless of how she was viewed, Marvin was a sick puppy for Anna. He slaved for her. You should hear his Here, My Dear album. The way he was singing and the lyrics, the guy was lovesick with Anna and though he did her wrong, he felt betrayed by her because he had suspected Anna of wrongdoing. Marvin had just MET Janis when this song was created. smile

"You were my wife, my life
My hopes and dreams"

That was from '73. Marvin and Janis didn't marry until '77... then divorced in '81. confused lol

Sure did. biggrin

And their version was more about matrimony compared to Marvin's. Marvin and Anna co-wrote the original and Marvin re-wrote the song for Let's Get It On but ironically kept Anna's name in the credits.

Marvin sung background on some of the Originals' stuff almost as much as the Originals sung background on his stuff. smile

It's really sad that sexual healing is the only song that most pop fans know him for. sad

I wouldn't say that. "Let's Get It On" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" are pretty popular, as is "What's Going On."

Don't forget "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You", "Ain't That Peculiar", the original "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" with Tammi, "Mercy, Mercy Me", "Inner City Blues" and "Got to Give It Up".

Me too,,,honestly lol shrug

Great arrangements from Gene Page. I'm sorry that he and Marvin didn't work alot toghether,,,Marvin's mellow and bluesy tone compliments Gene's moody orchestration, or vice versa.

He and David van DePitte were the best arrangers/conductors for Marvin.
