Great song. It always puts me in a good mood. She was getting a lot of flack from the country community around this time for going with more pop-oriented music.

And Vain I don't find it hard to believe at all that your country gay ass likes this. biggrin

I heart Dolly Parton. This is one of my faves, right after Jolene.

I used to know this song when I was reeeeeally little lol . They used to play it on the soft AM radio station that played stuff like Linda Rodstandt and Olivia-Newton-John. If I remember correctly (again, I was really small) Dolly used to have a variety show then too, and I'm pretty sure she would have sang this song cool

lol I'm partial to her early country stuff and recent bluegrass period. But her 80s poppy stuff is good too. Depends on what you're looking for. She's certainly written enough - 5,000+ songs - for you to find at least ONE SONG you like. Her music is often deeply personal, soulful and stirring. My Tennessee Mountain Home, Just Because I'm a Woman, Coat of Many Colors and Jolene are probably the best of her early years, back when country was still roots-based.

Heartbreaker was a good crossover album. Beautiful title track and the disco-ish hit, Baby I'm Burning, is kinda fun. lol

The Grass is Blue, Little Sparrow (with her Grammy-winning cover of Shine) and Halos & Horns are her bluegrass trio. All terrific.

Otherwise, The Essential Dolly Parton - split between two separate albums, Vol 1 and Vol 2 - are good broad-based career retrospectives. That enough to go on? lol

Thanks, Dan! I like most of what I've heard from her (about 10 songs). I think I will pick up The Essential. That girl's got mad talent.

If you can, pick up her Live and Well DVD from 2002 recorded at Dollywood. She is just a phenomenal force of nature with an incredible live voice. Such a pro (and worth about $400 million or something)

Yep. She's touring to promote that one and she'll be here. Unfortunately, it wasn't in my budget. I did, however, catch her last time she was here. A good, if short (90 minutes), show. Sometime orger endorphin74 and his fulltime lover will be in attendance for me.
