lol..Bilal was on BET a few years ago and claimed he wasn't really influenced by Prince. He said his singing style was reared more from gospel. Despite that he is a good singer.

I hear more Mayfield, too, than Prince. The falsetto, I guess, fuels the Prince comparison.

Perhaps his vocal style and melody is influenced by Prince. But he doesn't have the sexy/dirty/raw Funk/Punk/Rock style and aesthetic like Prince. Now a figure like that today would be something to see. I don't even think his music is really that influenced by Prince. Prince had catchy melodies derived from JB, Sly, Dr. Funkenstein, and other old school funk cats.

Ummm...okay. Let's get one thing clear. Since Prince himself admits that he steals licks, that means that it's kind of a moot point for you or anyone to say that people are copying Prince.
