I don't know Ed Harcourt or Bic Runga.

Ed is English -- I saw him open for Neil Finn years back. Bic is from New Zealand. You've probably heard her before; her song, "Sway," was used in a bunch of stuff in the late '90s (including the movie American Pie). The chorus:

Say... you'll stay...
Don't come and go like you do
Sway... my way...
Yeah, I need to know all about you

What's your NZ connection? One of my sisters went on a student exchange to New Zealand in the early 90s so by association it has a special place in my heart.

That's cool. I'm just the world's biggest Crowded House/Neil Finn fan. Neil produced some of Bic's stuff and I saw her open for Neil and Tim in '05.

Seeing the LOTR films really makes me want to go visit. A friend of mine moved there for work a few years back.

I actually made this playlist after that one:

lol The theme there was well-known riffs. There's a little part (usually on the keys) of each one that should be instantly recognizable.

This was a silly thing that I made recently for a friend to cheer them up...
"Tea" is a snippet of Morrissey talking about how to make the perfect cup of tea!?!
I called the collection "Welcome To The World"

An ex-coworker of mine asked all the music heads he knows to contribute to a project called The Great Unheard: Awesome Songs No One Knows. We were asked to send a disc of ten great obscure songs (we can interpret "obscure" any way we want) and in return, everyone involved will get a box set of everyone's discs. It's a project to expose people to new music and get some discussion going. Great idea I think.

Anyway this is what's going on my disc:

Mors Syphilitica - The Hues of Longing
Faith & The Muse - Denn Die Toten Reiten Schnell
Rasputina - Cage In A Cave
Joan As Police Woman - Eternal Flame
Sing-Sing - Come, Sing Me A Song
El Perro Del Mar - God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)
The Pipettes - I Like A Boy In Uniform (School Uniform)
Naty Botero - Te Quiero Mucho
Alice Smith - Gary's Song
Noisettes - Scratch Your Name

Orgers will know the Noisettes and Alice Smith songs, but I'm betting the people contributing to this project won't. I kept it limited to tracks from the last ten years and all women 'cos you know I luvs my ladies.

I like how the sound throughout the entire El Perro Del Mar album is eerie 60s pop. It goes great with Camera Obscura's latest. I was tempted to put them on the comp, but thought they might be too well known.
