I apologize for all these "remastered albums" thread questions.

Do Janet Jackson fans know if her former record company will remaster the Control and RN 1814 albums? As with the Madonna albums, I am hesitent to buy Control and RN 1814 (hard copies) if they are going to be remastered soon.

Also, do you know if Virgin will release a greatest hits compilation of her years with them? It seems foolish not to.

They should remaster the "Dream Street" album and include the 12 Inch version of "Don't Stand Another Chance" as a bonus track. I already have her first album and, starting with "Control", her music has been played to death to the point that I'm sick of hearing it.

Janet doesn't like those two albums because Joe forced her to record them when her heart wasn't in it. She's said that for her it starts with Control since that's when she dumped Joe as manager and took on independent challenges for the first time.

The first two albums have some nice disposable early 80's pop/R&B jams on them. Don't Stand Another Chance, which is pretty funky, is a standout.

To answer your questions:



I have no clue, but a big comeback this year will certainly help her chances. I am pretty sure Control will have a rerelease in 2011 (it's 25th anniversary), and also the first year they will seriously consider her for the RRHOF. If her comeback is strong this year I expect her to be inducted in 2011 and have a new album that year to capitalize on the induction.



I have no clue what is going on with Virgin, but then I never did since Richard Branson left.

Janet would be smart to do like Mariah and purchase her entire catalogue back for about $20 million. It's worth the investment and that money is nothing to her.

Dream Street...its like cheesy mid 80's bubblegum pop. I doubt it. Even though it's a safe bet to sell those albums again to hardcore fans, I can't imagine that the label would put out such an item out now when they really need to think about the future of music...if they do re release them, it could be digitally?

I can't imagine Virgin won't release some sort of compiltion but it might not be too soon although it's possible they could do it at the end of the year and try to see if there is a sales impact over the fourth qaurter. It might be a case like with A&M, where she cooperates with them and gives them two new tracks (unless that was a contractual obligation...she doesn't appear to have that with Virgin and making a hits set, does she?). If she does, what would the track list include? Skimpy on the last two albums, of course, but they got to include something.

That's a bit of a stretch and I would imagine they would not include So Excited, All Nite (although a fan favorite and a dance number one) and "Just A Little While". Also, there is a good chance of including at least one of her notable guest appearances on a rap record, most likely "What's It Gonna Be" or the records with Shaggy and Beanie Man, since they are both Virgin singles. They'll be something out there.

RN1814 was recently reissued with a DVD and the CD was probably remastered (don't know for sure).

Drop the Call on Me Remix, remove Come On Get Up (not released in the US) and replace them with Every Time and Son of a Gun and I imagine that's what they would release as a US greatest hits collection. And maybe substitute I Want You for Feel It Boy.

Janet has no contractual obligation to Virgin, so we won't see new songs. Virgin also doesn't own any of her unreleased material - most of that is still in the Flyte Time vaults.

They’re both blurs in her discography but to early fans I think they have their place. I prefer the self-titled disc over Dream Street.

As mentioned, I love Young Love, Say You Do and especially Come Give Your Love To Me. I had a 12” version that I use to run in the ground.

Dream Street for me had more misses than hits despite the Two to the Power of Love duet with then popular Cliff Richards, and her brothers lending background vocals.

Alot of these artists need to go back and re-issue their older stuff and re-master them at this point, people like madonna,mj,janet and Prince (though he wont) but it really comes down to the labels interest in doing it and the artist also. All would benefit from taking a page from the REM and Depeche Mode book, they pretty much re-issued all their work (rem just WB) re-mastered and containing dvds with each also.

I am not sure, but they might re issue control and Rn, and re certify them now that she's under unversial again. but I can't see virgin doing that with her catologue there. Even thou I like 20 Yo, I wish now that she would of just releassed a 20 anniversary issue of control, or a greatest hits ( which she needs to update), instead of a new studio album,that would of been more approite
