Me too. I love the b/w, the shadowing, the gloves, the painted words, but the hair. I had to see if it was a hat. But I like the cover.

Discipline is one of my favorite words but just reading the article I never need to hear it again.

That hair do is really un-orgasmic

I don't think it was ever the intention to have her look polished and prettified for this cover.

This makes me a little uneasy! I can already tell Jermaine is waaay to involved (it's not just one track) and that this might be a mess that makes "20 YO" truly look like "Control". I like "Feedback", but if it's the best song on the album, I'm done with Janet.

Take a breather, dude. lol I'm sure it's one song though it's the only one Janet gets expressive about.

Wouldn't doubt its something like 3 or 4 songs....maybe half the damn album! Don't doubt it for a second.

See, I'm not a huge fan of that. This strikes me as more of a single cover rather than album. I prefer not only the "Feedback" cover but love that fan made Robo-Janet thing that was popping up everywhere.

thumbs up! Agree with everything you said there. I loved that fan art even though that "digital" display on her crotch looked like it said "vaginal"...or maybe because of that.

I imagine something severe and possibly shocking but I think it’s the bangs that bother me most, sorta like she has a cap on her head. Maybe something to frame her face as I love her expression and the make up but overall, me likey.

Definitely a captivating, exciting image. It sets a tone. Janet always makes her best music when she isn't smiling on the album cover.

She's got a great smile but when that shit is BEAMING, I just can't take it. All those closeups in the video for Escapade of her smiling face bobbing up and down as she dances looks like jack-o'-lantern.

Here is a graph and figures of how often Sirius played "Feedback" this week (starting on Monday).

http://www.dogstarradio.c...ur=&eampm=

Most of the love is comming from the Beat (the dance pop station) and Heart and Soul, which is more Urban AC, differing from Hot Jamz, which is more current and hip-hop focused, which is still playing it as well. Looks like it just got added to Hits 1, the Top 40 pop station. Not shocking, even the gay station, which is more of a talk station, played it.

But you are right. It is not as if Janet denies his involvement in her past work. She is quite open about it. What I do not get about Rene is why he refused to be credited for his invovlement in the RN 1814 and .janet albums. Janet herself said that she wanted him to be. And of course, he complains about it later. rolleyes

And I agree with you that as long as the songs are good, it does not matter who wrote it.

And as for the Discipline album, Janet probably has several co-writing credits. I would be surprised if she was not credited for any of the songs.

Enough hijacking of this thread from me. Back to the new album. biggrin

Yes, Janet has always been very candid about the involvement in her work. She was honest about what she did and didn't do on the Control album in her 1987 Spin interview and in the Billboard Book of Number One Albums. She works on lyrics, basic melodies and vocal arrangements. And I have no problem believing that considering how close she always was to Michael and his creative process during Off The Wall and even Thriller. Michael is an incredible songwriter.

This is just simply not true. For at least 8 years Janet gave hundreds of interviews where she forgot to mention the major role Rene played in the writing of her songs and her direction generally. Janet herself has admiitted this so I don't know why people are denying it.

“The ambivalence and the discipline are in conflict,” says Janet when the song stops. “I can relate to the story. In fact, I can imagine myself in the story. After a long relationship that ends in pain, I turn to my old friend, discipline. I discipline myself not to get involved, not to be vulnerable, not to fall in love. My discipline protects me from any more hurt. My discipline keeps me on track. But here comes someone who’s so real and right that, as the song says, `This can’t be good.’ So discipline really isn’t discipline. It’s just self-protection and fear of being hurt. It’s resistance. Thankfully, the heat of pure passion melts the resistance. And the result is free-flowing love.”

WTF? confuse

lol

Just in case you missed it, the album is called "Discipline". nod

I thought the decision to keep Rene's involvement private was his own.

Yes, but it means you can never say Janet has always been candid about her contribution. She hasn't.

Yes, she has. It was Rene's decision to not be *officially* credited, but Janet always credited him personally.

Credited him personally? What does that mean? Can you show me an interview before 1997 where she credited him?

It means she never hid his involvement, even though he refused to be credited officialy until 1997.

And what, as in dig out all my magazines from 1990 onward where she discusses her relationship with Rene and their writing songs together, and scan some in for you reading pleasure? Sorry, I'm at work. lol

She discussed the creative process and the various concepts of her work in interviews and never mentioned that much of those ideas were Rene's. That is hardly being candid is it?

Ummm...she's said the concept of Rhythm Nation was developed with Rene...so, yeah, I'd say she's been pretty candid.
