The Supremes - Let Me Go the Right Way (1962)

Diana Ross: lead vocals
Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson: background vocals
The Funk Brothers: musicians
Berry Gordy: writer and producer

This was their second charted single in Motown, charted at No. 90 pop and was their first R&B charter at No. 26 so technically the Supremes' first hit was "Let Me Go the Right Way" at least in the black community.

And yes THAT IS DIANA ROSS SINGING LEAD ON THIS. Florence's the one singing high soprano and Mary's the deep alto.

Oddly, it doesn't sound too nasally but it's a rough R&B vocal from Diana before Motown glossed her over.

So much for that Dreamgirls myth.

Well, Dreamgirls never claimed to be an accurate depiction of The Supremes. They never even claimed to be an inaccurate depiction of them. lol

Nonetheless, it is a good song but it could be anybody singing. Their later singles were distinctive.

I know, just saying. lol

But anyway, yeah, anybody could've been singing it but to hear the Supremes sing this is still amazing to hear. The Supremes were more diverse than people give 'em credit for.

Yeah, the vocals are good. Both Diana and Mariah went into that whispery bullshit later on.
