One of the Grammys top nominees Amy Whinehouse, got her invitation, however she isnt going to be allowed a Visa to get into this country due to her ongoing arrests and drug issues. The CBS Network and the shows obviously want her for the ratings (lets be serious, if Britney was nominated they would want her up there in a straightjacket performing for ratings). But as it looks now this show might not even happen, or if it does it will be an announcement type thing, with probably Ryan Searcrest and Paris Hilton telling who won or something like that. The fact of the matter is that only 10 awards out of close to 100+ are even given on the show, so the show is nothing more than a concert, but since most of the singers are also actors at times, they might sit this one out. If this show gets cancelled i cant wait to hear Kanye's reaction, you know hes gonna make this about him and/or race.
New York Daily News today, i wasnt surprised since this was what happend to john Lennon, except he was here already and was to be deported for a marijuana bust. is this coming from you are is it an article? I like to see the movies that came out that year and which ones won awards...and strangely, I really love seeing the "In Memory Of..." montage. I can't even remember the last Grammys I saw that had a host who did a monolouge and they are often terrible anyways (the Oscars are hit and miss). They could do it without writers but I assume people that are part of either the WGA or SAG will not show.

is this coming from you are is it an article? Yet if the show does go on Brit soul sensation Amy Winehouse may not be allowed to attend. Amy is nominated in 6 categories including Record of the year for her work on Back to Black. Her much publicized bout with drugs and alcohol has U.S. officials concerned about letting her in the country. "Amy's been told she needs to pass a drug test before she can get a visa," a source told Britain paper The Sun. "She is doing much better and has cut down her drug use but is still isn't clean." The troubled soul singer who rebuffed rehab in her hit song of the same name has been in and out of trouble with the law, cited for marijuana possession in Norway last October and hauled in for "perverting the course of justice" just this past December. Winehouse's mother wrote an open letter to her daughter in a UK newspaper, begging Amy to seek help for her drug addiction. Now, the singer's troubles may keep her from getting into one of the biggest music awards shows of the year. "It is hard to believe there will be a time before going to the U.S. that she could pass the [drug] test," the source said. "Her team (is) desperate to clean her up as the Grammys is such a big deal. But Amy's not so bothered." http://www.sohh.com/artic....php/13436

I think the Grammys COULD go on, only TWO of its union members are part of the WGA. Oddly enough even though people who usually be there are either SAG members or ones who act like they support anything with a protest on it.

Becuase they mainly are trying to get ratings as opposed to doing a good show. the fact they only give 10 of the awards on the show, proves they have no interest in the award itself. The Oscars are all about for the most part, the best in the craft, not so much who had box office numbers, though the Grammys are not like the AMA show which is all about sales and numbers, the Grammys tend to cater to that belief, and in the end lost alot of its respect. The grammys caved in to people that said "why so many older artists getting nominated" which is bullshit, its about music not your age. is this coming from you are is it an article? Amy Winehouse singing visa blues Wednesday, January 16th 2008, 4:00 AM Amy Winehouse The problems keep mounting for troubled pop star Amy Winehouse. Her addiction issues led to a public meltdown and an arrest for questioning last month in the battery-and-bribery case that is keeping her husband, fellow addict Blake Fielder-Civil, behind bars. Now her difficulties are keeping her out of the U.S. "The Grammys desperately wanted to book her to perform at the ceremony, but she has told them she can't get a visa," says an insider. The Grammys no-show could be a moot point, as the ongoing Writers Guild strike may result in the event's cancellation. But news that Winehouse can't get permission to enter the country is another significant blow to her faltering career. Winehouse abruptly canceled her tour midway in November and has rarely performed after a couple of messy and much-criticized appearances in Britain last month. Although her arrest is a negative, sources say her public drug habit is the sticking point with U.S. authorities. "The visa problem is definitely drugs," says a Grammy insider. http://www.nydailynews.co...blues.html

Yeah and I won't be surprised NOR mad if the Grammys get sequestered as a press conference like the Golden Globes. All awards shows need wakeup calls so I'm less mad about the strike even though Hollyfuck is getting worse every day.

In other troubling Amy Winehouse news, her husband is the one filing for divorce! Which I find funny because he's one of the main ones who got her in the mess she's in right now. [Edited 1/16/08 12:02pm]

I remember back in Sept 2005 the band a-Ha played here in NYC at Irving Plaza, it was there only US show since on their tour and they had to pay out of pocket for the expenses of everyones visa's including roadies and stuff like that, and i remember talking to one of the members about a month later on his Myspace site and he said they actually almost couldnt get clearance to come over in time, they literally got their visa's about a week before flying everyone over, and it had nothing to do with anything but "security" clearances and checking on everyone. So Amy better, if shes clean, leave everyone home especially her boyfriend. They're just fucking greedy, man. [Edited 1/16/08 12:02pm]

[Edited 1/16/08 12:02pm] Well the main-problem with the show is that its trying to get people to watch that really have no interest in watching in the first place, and by doing that they are losing the people that wanna tune in but all they see are artists they dont wanna see. Justin Timberlake last year very BOLDLY pointed out how the shows ratings were up and that it was due to him, what he failed to inform was that the ratings were up during the first 20 minutes, which basically was to watch the POLICE re-form and perform, than more than 50% turned the channel making it yet another decline from previous years. Now people can argue "well its because your older and you dont like younger artists" well not even close, its alot more than that, when i started watching this show late 70s and 80s as i got to my teens, i saw people like Stevie,Billy Joel,Elton John,Manilow,Diana Ross etc..so they were NOT in my age group, at that point they were all in their 30's but i was getting hit with the best because the show was more about that, and the artists that were more my age group in the 80's like Duran Duran,Depeche Mode, Madonna etc werent getting nominated (though they should have) but now the show, feels it has to get ratings so it relys on putting almost all the artists you will see and hear on mtv and radio, which is far from its best, and it backfires because that crowd for the most part isnt tuning in.
