I don't like shuffle at all! And it will fuck up a Janet Jackson album! She's orgasming on an interlude then she's singing about children getting shot up in a playground. It doesn't work!

but that's the great thing about itunes. NO JANET INTERLUDES!!! woot! dancing jig woot!

the first few listens of a new album i always have to hear from beginning to end so i can form some kind of opinion on it. then, it either becomes one that i always want to hear all the way through, or else it becomes one that i pick and choose from.

nod

IIRC, sextonseven is the guy who doesn't skip "Revolution 9." ill lol

How can you listen to the White Album and skip over the rock 'n' roll milestone that is "Revolution 9"? razz

It's not the White Album without that song. nod

No, it's better. lol

Seriously, I've actually tried to listen to both discs all the way through since the first time, but I just can't get through that "song." disbelief

"Cry Baby Cry" into "Good Night" works just fine.

Even though I gave up on it after I got my first iPod, I'm a radio guy at heart. Life's too short to listen to songs I don't like as much as songs I love. I will gladly listen to new and/or great albums all the way through, but I'd rather listen to shuffle or carefully constructed playlists of my favorites.

Some songs take ages to finally reveal their genius so I listen to an album all the way through more often than not.

I think a great example is some of Kate Bush's albums. For example "The Dreaming"

NOT ALL ALBUMS are worthy of hearing all the way. That's why I just cast out all the ones i probably will have 0 plays to save computer space too. Why fill my computer with filler?

2nd..sometime I just shuffle tracks cuz I wanna hear all types of music. SOmetime I wanna hear all my slow jams and Rock music randomly than listed by artist and title.
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Shuffle is great for "today's theme song" that's played as the first thing in the morning. Let's just see what I am going to get now for today (It's 9AM in Finland):

Oh great.

"Funeral Day"

When an album is new to you, I think you have to give it a few spins all the way through to give it chance. After that, you know which songs you hate, so I tend to skip them but I DO hate the shuffle function.

One of the things that the download generation is missing is the art that goes into programming the running order of an album before it is released. Seriously, just as much as artwork adds to the whole package, the running order can make or break an album, daft as that sounds.

Some albums get it wrong but one of the reasons some of these albums that are regarded as classics are held in such high esteem is that everything is perfect - songs, performance, artwork, lyrics, but also the FLOW of the album. Shuffle kind of f*cks that up.
This is not an exit

Couldn't you control that by putting only positive tracks on it?

That would be like, you know, controlling the higher powers. You'll just end up in the gutter eventually.

Do not mess with da higher powers!

This could be a cool premise for a thread if we could get people to start in the morning with a shuffled track and post it.

When I first listen to a new album, it's always start to finish. Period. And usually the first couple listens after as well, providing I like the artist. After it's sunk in awhile, then I have no problem skipping around etc. And the shuffle function is very cool when I just wanna be surprised and am in no particular mood for something. Besides, I aint gonna have no whack shit in my collection to fear or dread. wink

pat
I refuse to listen to songs I don't like if there is so many good music I could listen to instead. I listen to new songs I don't like if I think they may grow on me, as soon as I realize they won't that's it.

I'm a sucker
for the full album myself
but oftentimes @ work
I'll fix it to "shuffle ALL"
and I enjoy it that way

but yeah I'm a sucker
for listening for the "story"
of an album through it's sequence

I love the shuffle option. I always put in 5 various artists CDs and hit random shuffle. I love it because I never know what song it is going to play next and it is like having a DJ that plays only good music.
