Sade...in the evening when pondering about Making Love and Anita Baker ... when sipping merlot and staring at Space.

I can't think of many females that have a better voice than Sade.

Sade wins this.

I used to say the same thing, I still do coz 'Nita is technically by faaar better than Sade, vocally.

But Sade's voice is raw and exposed, like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone before her, she gets RIGHT to point and destroy you. She moves me more than Anita, and beside she has a unique voice.

Anita, is from the Sarah Vaughan-school even though she put her personal spin on her shit. Sade on the other hand, is a new song stylist.

Sade tends to use her voice in a way that evokes a mood. She's like a human trumpet, most of the time. I easily hear trumpeters in her phrasing. She's frail, jagged and smooth at alternate times. Her lyrics tend to be a bit more bare, too. IMO. Sade's like this unapproachable singer. She's got the diva vibe goin'.

But, Anita has the Sarah V. (and Nancy Wilson) touches that grab me. She'll take you to church in a heartbeat. But, I can see Anita cutting killer tracks in her house, then frying up a mean chicken dinner after the session's over.

Both are adept at giving their band room to groove, too.

I'm not sure how to choose, or whom I would choose.

Though, Anita's voice probably gets the nod... hmmm I love that woman.

I feel that way about Anita.

On a personal note, I've hear many times that she is a rotton person to everybody equally(Miki Howard's encounter with Anita is funny as hell lol). I heard couple of things from somebody who worked as a keyboardist in her band that illustrated how much of an ass-biter she is.

Musically, she kept rehashing herself after her 1990 album Compositions. Love her music, but she doesn't try to re-invent her art,,,,she seem content with what she already made.

Yeah, I've heard that personality deal is the reason behind her "joint tour" troubles... disbelief

You just want to hug Sade and tell her it's all going to be all right. lol

When 'Nita presented Miki with her Soultrain award back in 1990, she hugged her and whispered in her ear "Keep that thing from being dusted, coz thats the ONLY thing you'll ever get" evillol

Miki was sport about it though. The 1st thing that crossed my mind when I 1st heard this shit is "Why the hell did a crazy wild and fiery woman like Miki, let something like that slide without punching that rotton bitch?" but then again, once a lady,,will ALWAYS be a lady.

Rick James hated her guts too,,,you should read his account on Anita Baker. And lets not 4get the infamous fued with Luther(although to her defence, they were equally bitchy).

She's not very well-liked among her peers and the ones who worked with her.

i couldn't stand her back in the day mad

i've been in love with Sade from the first listen. Diamond Life, Promise & Stronger Than Pride are classics! Those were the soundtrack to some cool memories.

Absolutley no comparison! Sade is nowhere near Anita's range or style. You can hear Sade's voice crack and strain.

Damn, I was waiting for somebody else to say that so I'd know it wasn't just me! She gets to rolling those words around in her mouth and I have to read the lyrics to know what they are!
Love Sade's voice and her stage presence, by the way, and know guys who just lose it when they see her! biggrin
