How Come Shuggie Otis Stopped Recording Albums After "Inspiration Information"? .....does anybody know?
I can understand if a mofo thinks its absured to make a follow-up to that album, but I think Shuggie is bad enough to ignore that notion.

I have no idea. I bought this album after a thread about Shuggie popped up on this site a month or so ago...great album. But I know nothing else about him or his music. But this album is definitely worth checking out. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

The liner notes say something about "health issues" but it's completely vague.
They also say Shuggie was asked to replace Mick Taylor in the Stones but he declined because he had his own musical directions he was more interested in pursuing.

Actually, I believe he recorded a couple more albums after that. But then later in the 70's he disappeared. Why? I don't know. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I have a few funky jams after that period..
I also have met him and i know folks that still play with him from time to time..The best answer is: 1) A very strange relationship with his dad.. 2) A few too many mind altering substances.. 3) And a hell of a lot of self doubt "see #1 again" Its a damn shame cause he has "IT" in a major way..I have been a fan since around 87'

I'm aware of his drug abuse(part of the reason why Inspiration Information recording sessions took so long to finish). I was waiting for your input and Uncle Neal's, I was sure ya'll hip to the stuff thats going on under the table. So, elaborate more on what you said, big bruh. [Edited 1/8/08 12:55pm]

Imagine if John L Nelson wanted Prince to ONLY be a part of the family jazz group.. If Prince wasn't a very strong willed individual..he may have found himself at 35-40-50...still living at home playing John's jazz tunes..thats all i can say !

And a hell of a lot of self doubt "see #1 again" This is the closest to the truth. I met Shuggie a few times when he came out to my DJ gigs at the Mint in L.A. back in the '90s. I asked him the same question. He said that he was frustrated with the music business and felt as if people would not appreciate his talent. Personally, I think that he had expected to become a big hit and was disappointed when his albums flopped.

Shuggie has seen decades beforehand that the american music industry was becoming too much about making money and not enough about making art.

Well, he did more of what Sly, Stevie, Curtis and Prince after them ALL combined did to a FAULT, as it seems.
The man was an instrumentalist, he wrote/composed everything he touched, he arranged everything in that Inspiration Information album, from the rhythm section, to the horn section to the strings sections. And the sound was ahead of its time. Clearly, his talent was too overwhelming and he was too much for the crowd EVEN for the 70's experimental scene. I never heard anything SO devastating, Mansson
