Usher The New King?

For the past 40 years there have ben kings. They come along and are replaced by others.

In the 60 James Brown, his succesor Michael Jackson. Then thee was Jimmy Hendrix, his succesor Prince. In the current decade Prince doesn't seem to have a musician to carry the crown. In the century some may think we have a replacement to Micjael.....Usher.

Is Usher the heir of the last 2 kings?

No Usher is just not relevant enough. Usher's was supposed to have an album drop sometime in 2006, but keeps getting pushed back (probably because the material is not strong enough). He also just doesn't have the "it" factor about him.

He also has been in the game going on 15 years in a couple of hours (Houston time) and doesn't even have just one hit that stands out like the others you named.

bored at Usher's music and music videos. He is boring and bland. Talented dancer. That is about it.

Nope, no one has come CLOSE to their achievements. IMO I don't think there will EVER be another replacement.

there will never be a new undisputed king of pop becasue everyone basically sounds the same and is using the same producers so u cant distinguish them from the other. Justin is the only one who kind of has his own sound because him and Timberland have become that perfect producer/singer combo, like Micheal and Quincy...right now, it would be Justin; his last cd, largely due to Timberland, was phenomenal and sort of a groundbreaking pop album which crossed over to r&b.

What the hell was "Yeah!" then, an instrumental? That song was massive and probably kickstarted the whole electro sound that took over R&B and rap after that.

But as for staying power, Usher clearly doesn't have any. People aren't even interested in him anymore and the album Confessions as whole has dated horribly.

To me, Justin is the only contender and he'd have to drop the whole pin up/dickhead act to really gain the respect MJ, Prince and James Brown have.

I've been watching his recent tour DVD and he's a phenomenal dancer, a good singer (not the strongest voice, just knows how to use it) and plays the keyboard, guitar and piano.

He needs to make it more known that he plays instruments, use them in a video or something. And get rid of the bimbos in the videos.

Who fabricated/created the whole "king of pop" to begin with. The term is lame to begin with and is nothing more than a publicity stunt.

he's still a baby.. when he hits 25, has a few more albums (so we can hear how he grows as an artist) then we'll see .. he hasnt been around long nuf' ...

i actually would like to see him re-do 'Say Goodbye' again on a future project cause i like the song, but hard for me to take that song seriously coming from a teenager lol .. when he hits like 24-25.. let him re-do that song..

"A phenomenal dancer" Justin Timberlake? whofarted

And you do realize that he is nowhere near as proficient an instrumentalist as his fans make him out to be. When he plays live there are several musicians backing him up. His "command" of the piano is about first year level. As laughable as Madonna with her guitar.

And btw, playing an instrument is not difficult. In particular if one is proficient at only a couple of chords.

Might have been huge in 2004, but I barely hear track anymore. Hell, I hear "Burn" and "You Got it Bad" more then "Yeah" which was dated by 2006. Also, Petey Pablo's "Freak-A-Leak" hit radios I believe a few months before "Yeah" which is basically the same track, (both produced by Lil' Jon)

michael is irreplaceable, but each of those impersonators have one great element that overshadows the rest, while michael has the whole package

chris brown-just the amazing dancing, his music doesn't stand out to me

ne yo-beautiful voice and beautiful songwriting, he sure can't dance though, and now I'm beginning to think that all the songs he's writing sound the same

justin-I give timbaland credit, his work with justin and nelly is probably his best work, although I also love all the things he did with aaliyah, ginuwine, missy etc. in the 90's. I guess justin has a good idea about what he wants to do on his records and the results are good, it's too bad he's such an asshole and can't admit anything about mj and prince influencing him.

usher-good dancing, but all his shit sound the same to me now and is not memorable

omarion-average at best

We aren't going to have another MJ, another Prince or another Madonna or anything else. Very few pop stars tend to have the lasting impact that they had and to a point, still have. The business isn't like that. While you can float around names like Usher and JT, consider this. As stated before that Usher's album has been on the backburner for a while and he seems to be more content selling Macy commericals and doing ads for children charities. Yeah to charity, nah to Macy's! Who honestly knows in this climate which hasn't been super kind to R&B singers as album sellers if the next album will hit. As for JT, despite the fact that the media adores him, he hasn't managed to extened his "sound" to creating hits for others (Duran Duran....and let's be honest, Madonna), which Prince did effortless during his peak.

And remeber when people compared Britney to Madonna...that stopped. Britney isn't hungry enough as a performer to be Madonna (she is hungry enough for some cheetos, though, y'all!).

With the way the business is more concerned with quick cash and thus quicker hits, they won't be interested in finding someone who is capable of being the next so and so, unless the controverisal 360 contracts that I heard of occur, which will be even worse for the artists struggling to get a penny out of digital sales.

He's the king of all Downlows maybe or king of bedazzled jeans or king of taking off your shirt for no reason, but king of a sound?

NO. That would require actual legit talent and pushing music forward.
