Cloudbuster...When Janet worked with Beenie she didn't know he was a homophobe!!! she is NO WAY anti gay, most of her friends are gay and take a luck at the songs from velvet rope "free xone" and "tonights the night".

Michael was not 9 when those first records came out, he was either 11 or going to be 11.

LOL! And another thing, Janet has SO gone down in my estimation since she worked with Beenie Man. How can someone so supportive of gays work with someone who advocates killing them. Two-faced bitch! I'm still trying to figure out Elton John and Eminem. Maybe the old guy wants to joust the boy.

I like Janet way more than Michael but overall, the best is Michael. He's done more things that were revolutionary than Janet has ever done. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

sigh.. Sigh? I truly love them both, but Janet is tied for my second favorite artist of all time. She has my favorite non-Prince album ("Rhythm Nation") and all of her albums since "Control" are in my top 50 of all time.

I dont give a donkeys ass about Beanie. Eminem's hatred is evident, call it an act, call it WHATEVER you want, it's evident and can NOT be excused by calling it an 'act' he's a disgrace in many ways.

Vocally MJ is amazing. Keep The Faith, Who Is It, Dirty Diana, Earth Song etc. He sometimes literally leaves me speechless. It's amazing that Michael is related to his siblings. Only Jermaine has a passable singing voice out of the rest of them, and that's not particularly "strong". I hate to say it, but I heard Latoya sing a few times and thoyght it was Janet. They're that similar. Rebbie is the best vocalist of the Jackson sisters. As for Janet's albums. Control is the only tight album she's ever done. Rhythm Nation is my overall favourite, but it sort of drifts off into nothing like all the rest - and All For You starts out as shit and ends as shit. All those damn interludes. They're thoughtful on Rhythm Nation, but now what's the point? I wish the woman would stop grabbing those plastic tits at every chance too. It's worse than seeing Michael naked in the manky You Are Not Alone video (crap song too). Also, RN1814 and The Velvet Rope may have been part concept albums, but ALL the singles were the tacky commercial dancey ones. At least Michael had the balls to release They Don't Care About Us & Stranger In Moscow as singles (and I believe Money was cancelled but promos were pressed). I hate it when people start criticsing Michael for his dancing. He practically invented the "group choreography" routines in music videos. In fact, he hasn't even done it in a music video since Remember The Time. Unless you count Ghosts, which never got a release in the US, and seeing as the particular choreography in that was so mindblowing (WHAT is that thing he does with his ankles?), I'll let it go Better than his sister jumping about waving her arms in different sequences rather slowly (a la All For You, Together Again). It's like Steps on speed. Janet, you're 36, leave that stuff to Christina Aguilera. Oh, but you haven't got much of a voice so I guess shoving your fake tits in the camera is the best way to sell records? OK then, just don't expect me to take you seriously as an artist anymore. I might change my mind about Janet one day if she showed she could write a thoughtful song and sing it with a bit of feeling. Anything apart from the incessant moaning and groaning over a dull R&B groove while she fingers herself in the studio. Also, about Beenie Man - hates gays or note, 'Feel It Boy' is one of the worst songs of the year. [This message was edited Tue Oct 22 0:24:40 PDT 2002 by Ellie]

Here's my two cents about this: Even though Mike didn't get Sir Quincy to produce "Invincible", I'd say it still sounds better than Janet's piece of garbage, "All For You". NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Thanks, buddy. Some people are so defensive of their opinions! I do remember a little bit of the Michael mania. When I was about 5, my bro, friends and I used to go around the neighborhood blaring "Beat It" through our ghettoblaster. It was great! I remember watching the "Black or White" video for the first time- what an event that was! Don't get me wrong- I do love Michael's music, but it hasn't stood the test of time for me like Janet's has. I'll still throw on a Michael Jackson album now and then, but it is more of a nostalgic ride than it is a current interest. That is as much of a reflection of the music itself as it is a reflection of my own taste. "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad" and "Dangerous" are all great albums. However, each one of them contains some weak tracks in my opinion. "The Lady in My Life," "The Girl Is Mine," "Just Good Friends," "Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Will You Be There?" and "Heal the World" are all pretty sappy. The most consistent is probably "Off the Wall." On the other hand, "Rhythm Nation" and "All for You" are both composed of songs that still hold my interest and I still believe are top-notch. "The Velvet Rope" and "janet." are nearly flawless in my opinion, too. It just boils down to a matter of taste. Who will be remembered as the bigger star? Michael, clearly. He has earned his legendary status. However, I get the feeling that his influence is over. I doubt the youth of today much care about Michael Jackson, let alone remember him before it was uncool to like him. However, Janet is still releasing singles that blaze up the charts. Her influence is just beginning to manifest itself in a lot of different acts. Her "ICON" performance is indicative of this. Both have EARNED a lot of respect from me and a great number of people. Who's bigger? Michael Jackson is bigger than everyone. Who's better? That's a matter of opinion.

Nobody will EVER be as big as Michael was in those two years,NEVER. Are we talking about impact or the quality of the music? Sure, Michael will go down as a seminal figure in the history of popular culture as aesthetic and fashion, and he is certainly more of a phenomenon in that sense, but beyond that his music is just on a completely different level to Janet's. I enjoy Janet superficially as professionally produced R&B, but something like "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' is on another plane entirely (as is the whole of Off The Wall, come to think of it). As others have said, Michael's voice is monumental enough to secure his place over the little bird chirping that is Janet's. [This message was edited Wed Oct 23 1:18:03 PDT 2002 by fairmoan]

Did you ever notice that Janet's song "Funny How Time Flies When You're Having Fun" has the SAME exact melody as "The Lady In My Life"? To tell you the truth, the only great album Janet ever did was 'Rhythm Nation'.I liked that one all the way through, and Jam and Lewis were at the top of their game back then. Her follow-up albums are all interchangeable. She has adopted the role of "sex kitten" and that's pretty much all she's about these days.As for "Michael's influence being over",you are correct. His time has passed. But,you only need to listen to the music of Justin Timberlake,Usher and Ginuwine and you'll see that MJ is STILL influencing many of today's wannabee artists.Watch these guy's videos and look at how much they're stealing from Michael! Janet is a very successful, popular artist, but she has never been a trailblazing "pioneer" of anything. Her dance routines and her slick music videos were all influenced by Michael, her "sex kitten" persona was already done (more impressively) by Madonna in the early 90s,and many other artists have worked with Jam and Lewis before and after she decided to jump on the "Minneapolis" bandwagon.Unlike Michael, she is just not an "IMPORTANT" artist who will be remembered for doing anything special, unique or innovative in her career. She WILL be remembered as Michael's little sis who had a string of sexy pop hits.
