Beyonce @ Mandalay Bay in Vegas (12/30/07)  ...Took advantage of a couple of free passes to see the last show of the tour. 
 Musical directors...   ...Bibi McGill (guitar) & Debbie Walker (bass) gettin' a little spotlight. The all-female band (Suga Mama) was quite impressive... What makes me furious is, if she (and so many other of today's artists) can have a band in concert, then why the hell can't they have one in the studio also? Concerts with real music aren't going to drive shit hop out of style but studio albums with real music will. Andy is a four letter word. | |

That was my favorite song from her and there was a lot of live instrumentation in the song, but it didn't do well so she switched up the formula. After the success of DIL I think she wanted to do more songs like "Work It Out" and that's why we have the B-Day album. The album did okay, but with Rihanna and her worldwide success I now see beyonce saying she wants her next album to be more "International sounding," which unfortunately takes her farther away from what she really wants to do and what she was, I believe, working towards, which was more of that "live" sound. My god its so insane that artists like that go on tour and have bands, and good ones most of the time, and then get in the studio an bring in samples and beats, what the hell, and people wonder why they suck on stage. The other day i heard a critic talking about the new Alicia Keys and saying how she used mostly live instruments in the studio, and talking about like it was some "new discovery" that he had never heard of. Well its alot to maintain, lets remember Rihanna's success was based off the one song for the most part, it takes alot to hold that success in tact and keep that international audience. Example would be Girls Aloud, 17straight top 10 singles shattering every female group record in the UK, the thing that has saved them is NOT coming to america, which killed off alot of artists and their hold in the UK market, people like the Spice Girls and Robbie Williams fell off worldwide after the came to the usa. So it takes alot to do both, not many can, Janet,Mariah and Madonna are 3 that can maintain both somewhat. Perhaps her art is her ability to take the audience to another place, allowing them to lose themselves in the moment. Glad you enjoyed it, tA. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries.
