for those of you wondering if these shows are any good, here's a clip from a show I attended last year. It's JoJo of the Mary Jane Girls performing "All Night Long":

http://www.youtube.com/wa...Zi1KJzj28g

This performance was hilarious.JoJo spent much of her time trying to keep her tiny dress from exposing too much. She joked that she is "having a wardrobe malfunction" lol There's always alot of fun moments at these shows.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Any shows like this coming to Detoit? The one with Al Wilson and Denice Williams looks great! My sister says she wants to take me to a in TN that is like a festival of indie rock acts but I would much rather go to something like this instead.

Dance

You know, you get excited about these shows, and when you get there you find out that the acts/bands have a speck of the DNA of an original member or one original with a bunch of studio musicians.

And I damn sure don't want to see some former sex kitten group now in their 50s trying to pop and wiggle in my face. disbelief

I also don't want to hear the two or three radio crossover hits of each band or their new "modern" sounding stuff. Blech.

perhaps you didn't read my report from the summer when the lead singer for blue magic came out FRIED/SLOSHED in DC...nearly knocked the drums over, almost fell off the stage twice and sounded like al b sure singing opera. cleared the whole arena out in 10 m ins flat.

BTW, the only SURE bets on these oldies shows are the stylistics, manhattans ,ray good amn and brown (aka the moments) and enchantment. all other acts are spotty, at best

I know what you mean.I've been going to these shows since 1996 and sometimes, you don't get the real group.A few years ago,I went to an oldies show featuring, among others,Rose Royce and The Delfonics. Those were the two acts that I was most excited about seeing. However,I was extremely disappointed when Rose Royce came out.It was only three members,a girl and two guys, singing to a pre-recorded backing tape!! Wtf?? I had seen Rose Royce before at previous oldies shows and they came out with a full band....horn players, guitarists, and the original male lead singer with the falsetto. They didn't have Gwen Dickey, but they at least had Ricci Benson, the female singer who joined after Dickey's departure. So,at least it was the "real Rose Royce",for the most part. The "fake" group that I saw a few years ago were lousy.

Similarly, the Delfonics weren't the original members either. It was one original member and two younger guys. Some people don't notice these things, but since I'm so into this music and the artists who perform it,I know who's who wink

And I damn sure don't want to see some former sex kitten group now in their 50s trying to pop and wiggle in my face. disbelief

lol I have to say that, even though they aren't as young and sexy as they used to be,I'm never disappointed when The Mary Jane Girls appear at these events.JoJo (lead singer) still has that sexy charm.Ditto for other older female artists like Barbara Mason and Evelyn King, who reguarly perform at these types of shows. Many of these ladies could teach the younger "divas" a thing or two about being a sexy performer.

I also don't want to hear the two or three radio crossover hits of each band or their new "modern" sounding stuff. Blech.

This is never really a problem. The acts don't primarily stick with their biggest crossover/radio hits. For example,Blue Magic routinely opens their show with "Welcome To The Club",which was hardly one of their biggest hits. And most of these acts don't have any newer material to perform.

i saw this show about 2 months ago here in baltimore. AFTER 7 STEALS THIS FUCKING SHOW!!!!! their voices and showmanship are still A++++. i thought stephanie would steal the show, because she always gives great shows (and she blew the isley brothers out of the water last time i saw them), but you'll just love after 7 , trust me. as for the whispers...they were just OK..i was kind of disappointed. they weren't badm but the arrangements on their songs were kind of suspect. the re were only 3 of them (the twins and the tall dude with the beard..the other one wasn't there for some reason), so the tall dude was doing choreography all by himself, which was liking a fish flop around on stage for 90 minutes (plus he seemed high, cuz he almost knocked the mic stand over..reminded me very much of the prince/mj/james brown deal)

but overall, well worth the money if it was just after 7 and stphanie, but like i said, the whispers weren't bad, but just aiight (and i love their anthology)
