NE-YO SUES R KELLY FOR $800K FOR CUTTING HIM FROM THE TOUR!!!

JANUARY 2--A young R&B singer charges that he was bounced as an opening act for R. Kelly after he outshined the headliner at the opening dates of Kelly's current North American tour. The singer Ne-Yo (real name: Shaffer Smith) claims that he was set to earn $785,000 for opening for Kelly at a minimum of 25 concerts. But he says was bounced from the tour after a pair of shows in mid-November, though audience reaction to his set was strong. In a December 31 Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit, Shaffer, 28, alleges that he was dumped because crowd and press reaction to his performance was "more favorable" than R. Kelly's notices. An excerpt of Smith's lawsuit, which names Kelly's promoter, Rowe Entertainment, as a defendant, can be found below. A 2004 tour featuring Kelly and Jay-Z collapsed in litigation, with the rapper portraying Kelly as emotionally fragile and prone to crying jags.

Well, at the risk of allowing the pot (R. Kelly) to call the kettle black, Didn't Ne-Yo accost a minor immediately prior to the tour kicking off?

If so, case closed.

Update: R. Kelly’s Attorney Releases Statement Regarding Ne-Yo’s Lawsuit

Singersroom.com
1/3/08

U.S. recording artist R. Kelly said singer Ne-Yo's beef is with the promoters that ousted him from Kelly's tour, not with Kelly himself.

Ne-Yo filed a lawsuit against concert promoters Rowe Entertainment for breach of contract, violation of the right of publicity and unfair business practices after he was dropped in late November from Kelly's "Double Up" tour after only two performances.

In the lawsuit, Ne-Yo asked for about $735,000, the remainder of what he claims he was promised in an oral agreement.

"The idea that R. Kelly had anything to do with Ne-Yo being dropped from the 'Double Up' tour is just plain silly," Kelly's representatives said in a statement. "Ne-Yo was dropped because of a contractual dispute with the tour promoter and, in fact, Ne-Yo is not suing Kelly, but only the promoter.

"Ne-Yo may think blaming the situation on R. Kelly will improve his chances of collecting from the promoter, but if he does, he is sadly mistaken. Anyone remotely familiar with R. Kelly knows he is confident enough in his own abilities to be happy to share the stage with enormously talented people -- the more talented, the better."

Oh please, let's stop it with the bullshit rolleyes I love how R.Kelly's people are trying to distance him from this lawsuit. This is R.Kelly's tour,he's the one calling the shots and making the decisions. For whatever reasons,he changed his mind and didn't want Ne-Yo on the tour.He has drama with almost every artist he tours with (Kelly Price in the late 90s....Jay-Z several years ago...and now Ne-Yo).Make no mistake,Ne-Yo's beef is with R.Kelly, and deservedly so.

Actually, his head CAN be on straight AND he be gay at the same time. My personal feeling is that he probably is gay, and THAT probably has something to do with him being so talented and well groomed.
