iPOD Nano help

Hey, I just got a new iPOD as a present from my sister but I don't know how to turn the damn thing off. I had bought one song for free from my gift card but for some reason, the whole thing froze up when I tried to find it in my iPOD, anyway, I took it out and now I can't turn the thing off. Can any of you help me? Thanks.

I use to own an Ipod Nano, but I eventually traded it in for a Zune 30 and 80 because my Ipod was just acting crazy. And i do know some solutions to your problem:

- Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
- Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

I tried doing that, it's still stuck, but you said repeatedly? With the battery in it?

You should only need to do it once. IIRC, you could try holding Select and Previous at the same time for a few seconds to bring up the troubleshooting mode.

Well, you never want to break into that little device because it's hazardous to do that, but have you tried to put the sync cable back in the device's port and the computer to see if something changes? And holding the center button and the menu button should work. Also, make sure the hold button is unlocked.

Thanks, I tried it again and it went through. I got another question though. How do you drag songs you purchase into your iPod?

In iTunes, turn on Disc Use for the iPod. Then you can drag tracks from the Library onto your iPod.

FWIW, I still don't get why you'd do it that way. The beauty of iTunes is that it can automatically sync songs to your iPod -- either your entire library or a specific playlist or playlists (including smart ones).

I just got an iPod nano too. The turn it off, just press the Play/pause button

To drag the purchased songs.....The purchased songs may automatically sync onto the iPod.

But then again, I have over 300 songs on mine, but only purchased 2 wink lol

It's not, it froze up when I tried to drag it or I hit something and it froze up like that. It's already been brought but I had to reinstall everything just for the damn thing to turn off. LOL

When you first plug in the iPod, the iPod summary screen should pop up in iTunes. There is a checkbox for "Enable Disc Use" that you need to select.

I dont have a nano, but if u already have Itunes on..just plug in the ipod while Itunes is on screen. If U purchaed anything from Itunes it will be automatically synced in2 your ipod.

If u bought something from another site what u need to do is drag the song in2 the Itunes. WHere it says Music...when it is in, just plug in the ipod aagain and it will sync for you..if not u probably gotta sync it yourself.

Make sure u have enable disc use on so that everything u put in itunes off your computer will be sure to connect to the ipod.

Yeah I got the instructions. But I can't find it because I click on it and it just automatically disappeared. I still can't find enable disc use or anything, I upgraded to whatever format the iPod was on and that's all that showed up.

I have three iPods on my library...we have to set them to manually sync, otherwise we'de all get each other's music.

This is something I am worried about if I get my wife a Nano... Does anybody know if you open iTunes on a different user it will give an option of using a different iTunes library just for that person and revert to the original when I want to use it.... would be useful to know. Thanks for any help!

If you're using a Mac you make a new user account for the computer then each of you will have your own user name and password and when you login you will each have your custom itunes libraries. Don't know about this on Windows but I guess it's the same deal.
Edit: to clarify, you can't login as separate users to itunes in itself but instead you each login as a different user to macosx which in turn lets each of you run custom libraries within itunes.

In our house we rather just have our ipods set to "manual" mode and then each just create a playlist and drag that on to our ipod. Our tastes are all overlapping so it's better that way. If we were completely different and didn't like any of the same music as each other I'd probably do the separate user accounts as above.

I think you mean manual sync. Disc mode is when you use your ipod for storing files other than music, like a flash drive.

We use the same overall library...then drag over to our ipod when its plugged in. It works pretty well for us because I have a great range of music that I like and my wife and son pick through it.

I see your point, but you could just set up your own individual playlists and automatically sync those. A couple benefits that way are that (1) you wouldn't have to have your iPod connected to decide what music you want on it and (2) you could easily swap out which playlists you're going to use. I have a Christmas playlist that I add to the sync in December and then remove when the season is over, ready for next year.
