Great cut
Would be better if the guitar solo was slighty shorter though. Not a big fan of overtly long geetaarrr shredding bits It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

As a kid, I broke my neck to learn how to play that solo. In 77, I KNOW Prince, when he heard this, he was like "Whaaaaat?!...Oh hell no! Fuck that shit! Watch this!" And then he did the solo to Get It Up. That solo is VERY influenced by Marc Hick's solo to Slide. The song is bangin' too. One of my faves. A very important cut. I love the solo...and all I know is that we can't have a cook-out/party or family gathering without playing it. When Steve Arrington joined later, I sure did have a crush on his ugly ass. [Edited 12/30/07 15:39pm] "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

I really think that the "Slide" guitar solo inspired some of those lengthy guitar solos that Prince later came up with for funk jams like "Get It Up" and "777-9311".Applying a lengthy hard-rock guitar solo to a funk track...he was really intrigued by that....blending hard rock with funk.

Not a big fan of overtly long geetaarrr shredding bits I have alllllways said the same thing. this would have been the top funk song if it were not for the electric guitar overpowering the song two minutes in. I mean that just killed it. nipsy

Well I agree that the solo is great...the cut down version that was on the 45 as well as the 1st "Best of" LP's. Years later when I got the then latest compilation CD & heard the full length version of Slide I was surprised at the length of the solo. Now don't get me wrong I love extended solo breaks but this one was a bit much. It probably would be amazing in a live context. It was a bit wanky for my taste & I usually dig that sort of thing. The edited version was cooler & to the point IMOHO.
