Thats why I can't be mad anymore when people like George Benson and George Duke do "Smooth Jazz". I hate the music with a passionate gut,,,but I understand why they do it and I stopped judging them for doing it.

But you can pass judgement on the industry or 'business side' of the industry that 'forced' them to do that shit.

Read again!

There's ALOT of love behind it smile

It pains me to see alot of good teachers out of work because they refuse to eknowledge the so-called "Ugly" side of the music industry.

Why should I blame the record labels for my beloved musicians' ignorance? They're just doing their jobs just like the next person. If you don't have patience for this ride, somebody will take your place in no time.

Thats why I can't be mad anymore when people like George Benson and George Duke do "Smooth Jazz". I hate the music with a passionate gut,,,but I understand why they do it and I stopped judging them for doing it.

Nah, nobody forces you into anything. And like I said, either you know how to deal with the "business side" or you're fucked, like our friend Van Hunt.

You can play both fences and cater to each side while you still do your thing.

Herbie Hencock releases a song or 2 to shut the "Smooth Jazz" station up, but the rest of the album still represent what he was ALL about, always.

With Benson and Duke, they went ALL the way "Smooth Jazz". Their choice and like Mansson said, people gotta eat.

That's why I said 'forced'. You are correct that no one is truly forced into anything. But the music business now operates in a manner that is not conducive to developing and nurturing artists. I do pass judgement on it for that. Van Hunt could make some concessions and choose to survive, even thrive perhaps, within that model. On that level I guess it's true that no one has to feel sorry for him. But I do feel sorry for the predicament on the whole because we get shittier music as a result.

Now thats what I feel sorry for; the people.

Even though its been said times and times again that the people are the ones to blame for supporting that kind of music by going out and buying it. I think the issue is much deeper than that.

So what happen to the proper promotion for Van Hunt's debut album when he was playing it by the rules?

The new album is like a concept album and the title track and the theme of the record is pretty much based on the very thing we are talking about, that's what the title track popular is all about.

This guy has been around for awhile as a ghost writer and wrote a hit song in the late 90's that he was never paid for, I'm sure that, unless he has a mental problem of some sort he must have a good idea of how the buisnness side is ran at this point. If Van Hunt doesn't want to worry about sounding like soldier boy or whatever current artist that is out at the time I have nothing but respect for him. More musicians need to grow some balls and take a stand.

Man, it's a shame this happened with this album--IMO, this is the one that truly delivers on the promise of the first two releases. I kinda liked the other albums, But he really brought it on this one! I guess it's no coincidence that it's probably his least commercial--hence the labels backing away from it. Damn, it figures that this would be the one that made me a believer....

don't count it out yet, I bet it's still going to come out at a later date on a different label, the full article stated that he is already working on the fourth record and that he wants that one to be the one that will silence everyone, that he intends for it to be his masterpiece

I pretty much agree. I think I will like this one a lot more than his others and they were not bad at all.
