Jimmy Iovine is an idiot

I first got this vibe from this guy when i heard him speaking a few years ago, the typical BS from a record exec, but when i saw him talk on an episode of PCD's "find a new doll" crap show, i realized this guy really cant do anything but follow a trend. He was often praised as a visionary, because of his successful track record, but he really didnt do anything, and he really hasnt got a clue. In a recent interview talking about the release, well not release of Nicole Scherzinger's album he talks about how he is "not putting it out till the climate is right" rather than saying, look i fucked up, i should have waited till at least the second PCD album which was due early 2008 and then moved Nicole to something solo. But iovine admit mistakes, yeah right, Well hes made alot, ONE would be he figured just because PCD sold 6-8 million worldwide that he could market Nicole and have her be that big too, well first issue, Nicole is not BLACK or WHITE which means she cannot be marketed the way he wants too market her, which is this beyonce-ish pop star, big problem is that Nicole doesnt fit the mold. Next mistake Iovine made, lets have the first single sound like everyone else and throw in a rapper to have her appeal to an audience she doesnt appeal to, bad move, next up, lets release another single that sounds like everyone else, with songwriters that everyone is using, blah, blah, blah, . Now with the cd release creeping up what does he do, sends her overseas to promote, which actually is a market that PCD did stronger in, but the problem she was promoting an album that wasnt coming out, so waste of money Mr.Iovine. Even bigger issue is that PCD now are set to go into the studio to finish their second album which originally set for April 2008 but now may be in jeporady due to Mr. Iovine's great "vision". People that heard the advance for Nicole's record all said the same thing, including me, lose the hip hop shit, lose the lame ballads that everyone is doing, they all felt the strongest stuff was the stuff you would NEVER expect, WOW u mean being different is actually a good thing???? Tracks with Sting and also Snow Patrol with members of Coldplay's production team, those songs were held back as singles because of Mr. Iovines "vision".

I'm really dissapointed at how her promotion & songs have been displayed. Even worse was that AWFUL performance she did with Will.I.Am....i couldn't even defend that mess. lol

Well labels only want you to be like everyone else, so they give you the writers,producers,etc...and there the same people that everyone works with so no one has an identity, outside of the fact that they are trying to sell her to two audiences that really wouldnt accept her anyway. My call from the beginning was to go the opposite route and go with the Sting song they did together, or even the one she wrote with snow patrol and used Coldplays production/engineer for, but NO the label wants Ne-yo,Will I am, Pollow sound like everyone else blah blah blah, what a sad thing.

I was surprised at how weak her solo shit has been. Really it looked like a no brainer for her to take the next step, instead shes just lost in the shuffle of the same forgettable blah. It's had the effect of seeming like she hasn't got an identity or that she's being led. It only really works when the record company works for the artist and not the other way around.

Well look at whos at the helm of the singles, Will I am, Ne-yo, Polow, etc... its the same same same same that everyone is using. The idea to move her out of the group this soon was dumb and greedy on the labels part, they should have kept it the way it was going, I mean they squeezed 6 singles out of the record and 7 overseas, they were on a short break and right now were supposed to be almost done with album 2 with a release of March, but thats all getting bumped due to poor direction at Universal from Mr. Iovine thinking "he knows". Like i said the tracks that will get lost were the best ones, one with Sting and the other with her in a more Rock format with members of Snow Patrol and production from Coldplays engineers, now thats taking it up a notch, not doing crappy Will I am songs.

Exactly.Nicole actually has talent, but they're giving her shit material.I saw her on the MTV Awards performing some awful, dreadful song with a lame rapper disbelief I don't know why record labels keep assuming that this weak, predictable shit is gonna sell everytime. They should can her solo album and put together a new, kickass Pussycat Dolls album.I thought "Dontcha" was a fun, decent song. How about some more jams like that?

Because mainly they dont wanna go against formula, thats the issue. And this goes with tons of "pop" artists like Nicole who have talent but get pulled in by labels and labels have no clue what to with music and talent, and god forbid you can "write" for yourself, they dont want that, they only know what sold last month so they wanna do it again, the execs at labels are clueless to "music and talent" they only know "numbers and trends". So im not shocked the singles didnt go anywhere, mainly because it was what everyone else was doing, it would be like asking everyone to buy the same song 15 times. But like i said before Nicole, when she does do a solo record, needs to be something different than the beyonce's,ciaras and rihannas of the world. First reason is that nicole will turn 30 this year, thats too old in todays market and frame of mind, two, Nicole didnt come from a that kind of POP background, though she is int that field now with PCD she didnt sing that stuff at all till edens crush. Three, she has a unique look and name, which puts her in a smaller field of who she appeals too, shes not Black and shes not white, shes hawaiian, i mean outsid of Don Ho, and that big fat Guy who died a few years back and maybe Ron Darling the Mets former player and now announcer, can you name other hawaiians that have broken in to the masses. So my reason for saying Jimmy Iovine is an idiot is because he has something different but is too stupid to take another course thats not formula. One exec/rep at universal said when he first Nicole sing he said he hadnt heard someone so different, since norah jones and alicia keys.

It would have been smart to pair Nicole with some edgy, unique producers that everybody else isn't already working with. Why didn't they go to Dangermouse (of Gnarls Barkley) for material? confuse Why didn't they go to Robin Thicke for some cool slow jams? And why does she have to do strictly shit hop/R&B anyway? How about a few rock/pop jams with Maroon 5 (or their producer)?

Any of those ideas would have been better than a lame collaboration with Lil Wayne disbelief

well on the record she did a track with Sting and then she worked with/writing/producing with the lead guy from Snow Patrol, and produced by the engineer who has worked with Radiohead and Coldplay, so i always thought they would go that route, but i guess they wanted to play it "formula" once again. She did do something with Cee-lo Green again but they didnt use it becuase he did Dont Cha for PCD so they went away from it?

That performance on the MTV Awards was equally awful.I think the rapper was Lil Wayne? It's sad to see someone with so much potential putting out songs that are so predictable and uninspired. Her solo album is dead on arrival (if it ever gets released).

Dance

I wouldn't call her talented, but with a track like "Don'tcha," the camp appeal of her group, her drag quality, and her racial ambiguity there's room for her to be a staple in the children's clubs and music collections.

That is if her people were willing to let her go full throttle in that direction. No half-assed slow jams, or guest spots for rappers or attempts at pop rock, just straightforward dance records like the finished pop chicks only good.

I don't see her having a place anywhere else because it's not like she's a real artist or has the pipes.

Gotta disagree because mainly she has the talent, at least more than 90% of her contemporaries do. Vocally, shes there, she sings alot better than people we think "have the pipes", mainly because she knows to sing where as others just know how to show off their pipes. I would rather her lable exploit vocals and something different rather than just going for the whole, "ringtone" shit and guest rappers. Nicole started out singing in shows and jazz standards and then in rock bands, so to move her into an arena where "creativity" goes out the door isnt smart and really why its not working.

I know lol seriously,I can't see why many artists aren't knocking on Dangermouse's door, begging for tracks. After the work he did with the Gorrilaz' last album, and the Gnarls Barkley project,it's clear that he's got the goods. His sound is edgy, funky and much more exciting than the bland, faceless stuff that other producers are creating.Earlier this year, there was a rumor that Madonna would be working with him.Shame on her for not following through!

As for Robin Thicke...here's an enormously talented songwriter/producer/artist who isn't working with everyone else (yet).I don't know why most R&B artists insist on working with producers who produce every other R&B artist too.

she lacks solo star power, she is like ralph tresvant of NE, with NE he is a star by himself his weakness shows, just like Nicole, she should be a star but she doesn't have that IT, she is kinda blah, and with that Kelis knockoff, and Beyonce knockoff singles she released it was over for her.

Except she has the hotness factor unlike Ralph Tresvant, which trumps almost everything razz . Her vocals are more than enough. She can move, it's not like she's Mariah or Whitney. There are good formula pop songs, which PCD had and there are bad formula pop songs which is the road shes gone down or more accurately being led down

I think Nicole definitely has star power. She just needs some worthy songs.Imagine if she had a hot, catchy jam like Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous".She would be a huge solo superstar.
