What are your views on AALIYAH

I am a huge Aaliyah fan... do any of you like her music/personality or whatever?

I love her music, the Aaliyah album especially. I think she was gorgeous and her voice was sensual and smooth. I can't believe she was just 22. I love I Care 4 U, Never No More, I can Be, Loose Rap... basically all of her songs. I love her Isley Brothers covers... I wish she released her original cover of At Your Best and not the R Kelly remix, I think if she did it would get alot more plays on channels like vh1 etc. I also like her Marvin Gaye cover of Got to Give it Up.
It annoys me when people say that she only has fans cause she died... thats not true. I always loved Aaliyah, I thought she was classy and I just loved her whole vibe and everything!
She had a 7 year career before she died and in 2008 it will be 15 years since her debut.

This is what Stevie said about Aaliyah:
"And I was a major fan of Aaliyah's voice. My heart was so broke, I said, "You know what? In the next life she's got to be my wife."

This is her singing 'let me down easy' by the Isley Brothers

I absolutely adore Aaliyah and I was devastated when she died.

Her music is spellbinding and I love her "less is more" image.

She was beyond sexy but NEVER in your face or sleazy.

She knew exactly how to work it without going anywhere near overboard.

To me, Aaliyah was the last worthwhile popstar and was headed for big things.

I can only imagine what music would sound like if she was still alive and working with Timbaland, The Neptunes and the like.

Plus, we wouldn't have to put up with Ciara ripping her off.

I wish One In A Million or We Need A Resolution would be re-released - they deserve to be heard.

The beats Timbo came up with for her are still hot today. Amazing stuff.

She also seemed like a beautiful soul. A very kind, gentle, laid back kind of person.

Such a shame. I'll never fly in a small plane for this exact reason.

All that talent gone to waste.

She was someone who, died too soon. I often wonder had she live, how would this music game be. She was now coming into her own and it really showed in this last album. My favorite track by her is, "At Your Best". I read somewhere that, when Ronald Isley heard her version, he said that it was actually better than theirs. One last thing. I have told this story before. I remember, hearing the album weeks before it came out, (I am a D.J. so I got an advance copy). I remember after hearing the CD, my brother said, "This is her best CD, yet. To which I replied..."Yeah, it's too bad she will not get to enjoy it". Not long afterwardd, she was killed.

She will be missed....

"I Care 4 U" is probably my favourite song of hers and "Rock The Boat" is pure magic IMO. i like the fact that she kept a low key, more laid back demeanor. i remember when "Try Again" hit. dancing jig i couldn't get enough of that song. still can't. it was very sad and i remember hearing the news of her passing. a short career and life but she left us with some great tunes.

rest in peace beautiful lady. praydoverose

I agree with everything you said. She was the first artist that I absolutely admired. I basically grew up wanting to be like Aaliyah

I also think about this a lot. Aaliyah passed at 22 years old. It's a trip that non of her would-have-been "peers" even at their current ages(25,26,27,28,29), matches Aaliyah's maturity that she had at 22 years old! She was just one of a kind.

I was not a great fan of Aaliyah's music, but I absolutely loved the persona she wielded. Sexy, but never sleazy; confident, yet never with some ridiculous "swagger" that seems to be the obsession of late. She handled gossip and rumors with lightheartedness and tact. And I've never heard anyone say a negative thing about the woman.

On top of that, she was drop-dead gorgeous and seemed interested in trying her gifts out in new fields.

Very saddening loss, but a worthy legacy for such a short life.

I like most of the music I've heard by her. I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I probably could be. "Are You That Somebody" was especially tight. Her passing was unfortunate. If not for that, she could have gone on to maybe be one of the last long-term superstars.

Overrated talent, in death she is looked upon like some legend, when in truth her voice is in the same range as ashanti, and she was the work of the producers wheather r. kelly, missy, timbo, but since she died she is a legend,

Aaliyah had one of the sultriest falsetto's(ex. At Your Best), and one of the most hypnotic in a way soubrette, lyric contralto voices(ex. We Need A Resolution). Then she could carry a ballad.(ex. How Could The One I Gave My Heart To).

Despite not writing any of her material, she still managed to stay true to herself and her sound was distinct no matter who she worked with. That's artistry. Not to mention her rising up a level each and every album release and setting trends.

Aaliyah was not a strong live vocal performer due to nerves, but you still could tell she could sing.

Aaliyah was definitely a class act, it was such a shame to see her die that way, so senselessly; especially in her prime. I don't think she was overrated though, everyone becomes a martyr in death, so don't jump all over her about it. I believe that had she lived, she would have taken her career to the next level as far as being an actress, and she was connected musically, so we'd be seeing more hits from her as well. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. pout

She exuded femininity and class. Something that was notably missing among the young women from her age and STILL missing. You could tell that she got alot of her persona from her upbringing, the charm school influence woulda been too pronounced and sometimes forced. I once saw an interview with her mother and I realized then that Babygirl was only a younger version of her mother.

Her mystique was part of her charm. But there was alot of melancholiness there which she hid very well, I never knew where it came from or why it happend. Not that I believe in astrology but she was a capricorn, and those who were born under that sign lean more on the melancholy side.

On the other side, she was a funny chic. If you guys could find her "MTV diaries" in youtube and watch it, you'll def discover a new side.

As for the music, I simply love her voice. Everything was so natural and the sexuality was part of her persona and growth. Again it didn't came outta the blue in one night, you could even tell from her debut album that she had it in her and it was a matter of time untill she grew up and used it very well.

Such a very average singer...and her music was only of interest to me owing to the production. Still, I read an interview with her once where she said that she was into Lewis Taylor so it's not all bad.

Aaliyah knew how to use her vocals as an instrument, she made early songs of hers which were pretty weak if song by someone else, she gave it more depth. She didnt have a "beyonce" or "aguilera" type range, but she knew how to "sing" which honestly is more important than having a great voice. I feel on her last record she made her best music, she seemed to be mixing it up, she was taking mainstream RB into a new direction because she was getting to work with others, that final records best songs had nothing to do with Timbaland, who at that point i felt was running out of gas with his production. And the beauty of Aaliyah was the"mystery" the hair, the glasses, the look, she encompassed Sexy without even trying, and since that time very few have been able to do that, Amerie is the only one who comes to mind that can "pull off" sexy without, "pulling it off". I mean sure there is more acclaim in death than in life, but thats always been the way since the beginning of time.

This is very interesting. My mother told me that even when I was a child, around 9 or 10, I would just stare at Aaliyah's videos and say "Look mom, watch her, she's so cool."

I'm a Capricorn as well. I've always felt that I was a happy person, but I never understood why people would constantly ask me "what's wrong?" Watching Aaliyah, with I guess that same melancholy vibe, just made her instantly click with me.

As I continue to admire her through-out the years, I would go to her site or read her articles and notice that she always mentioned "darker" things like loving to watch scary movies or read about vampires.

I won't say that I'm a sad person, or Aaliyah was a sad person but as light or as spiritual of a person that I feel I am, I still struggle with wondering why I'm intrigued by night, and just the "darker" side of life in general. I also still wonder why even in my lighter moods, people still take me so seriously. Maybe it is a capricorn thing.

cool I liked Aaliyah. I always thought of her as a down to earth person. She was always smiling in photos & in interviews. You can tell she loved entertaining people. Her music was good. It is such a shame her life ended so young. I was really blown away when i heard about her death. It was shocking.

cool I do agree also, they did go too far a bit with her death. When Lisa Lopes(Left eye) died...she was not even talked about as much as Aaliyah. Even though TLC is considered as one of the biggest girl groups. In no disrespect towards Aaliyah...because i did like her music. I thought Lisa should have been given more coverage. Aaliyah was not as big as TLC.
