Music present. (Billie, Ella, Nina and some mo')

I am going to a little dinner party tonight, me, my best friend and his bf and the bf's best friend. Just the four of us.

Now my best friend is happy with the champagne I am bringing, but I thought I'd give a nice little something for the two other guests as well.

I am burning a DVD with some MP3's that include all the Ella Fitzgerald songbooks, a 10 cd box of Billie Holiday's work on Columbia, the best of Nina Simone, the best of Dinah Shore and the best of Kay Starr, and topping it off with Edith Piaff Integrale and the best of Lucie Delyle (both French singers from the 1930's).

I hope they will like the pressie...

You can't go wrong with Nina. I'm LOVING my Nina stuff right now.

If they want a solid collection of stuff they'll be going back to forever then they'll appreciate that. If they're j/o's then bring an Alicia Keys CD just in case.

We did not play them at the dinner party (old fashioned-no computer linking friend) so they will have to discover at home what I gave them.

One of the two never heard of Ella Fitzgerald, though. Those people exist. It is entirely possible. So I hope to introduce her in a gradn way to him and I hope he will learn to love her as much as I do.

They will be shocked at the Lucy Delyle cd, though; an amazing thing to pass on, old fashioned music.

Awww touched you're such a good friend,,,I mean to go through all that pain in the ass lol Not bad nod

I'm trying to get into Edith Piaff. The stuff I heard so far are very good, but like B.B. King, I need to know where to start.

Hehehe, even though I was as shocked as you ('You're KIDDING, right?') later on I realised I was really presuming. Music does not mean the same to everyone and it is also a matter of what you hear growing up.
I had to miss out on stuff like Mahalia Jackson when growing up...

I agree!

My mother is an example. The ONLY thing she owns nowadays is Chaka Khan's discography(she sold the rest of the stuff, somewhere,,,when I could've made a good use out of 'em mad lol).

Music snobs in theOrg(including myself) assume that people in general are passionate about music, whether its bad or good when in reality, some people just wouldn't give a damn.
