James Brown's Original version of "Mother Popcorn" Here is the original version of James Brown's number 11 Pop hit, Mother Popcorn (You Got to Have a Mother for Me). This version is called You've Got to Have a Mother for Me. It was planned for release in early 1969, but shelved for I Don't ant Nobody. It was released later that year but under a new name and music.
The tune would show up later own down the road. Most JB fans probably recognize the background track as it was used for Bobby Byrd's Hit I Need Help, the James Brown Bands tune Use Your other and other artist in the James Brown Revue. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I heard this a couple of years ago and downloaded a snippet but it didn't have the lead guitar in the background. It did have the rhythm guitar though. I loved this version minus the lead though. I always thought this was Bootsy playing bass.

That track was first released on the 1988's "Mother Lode" compilation on Polydor, a highly recommended release.
