If I'm not mistaken, MJ owns all of his master recordings (from the Jacksons forward). Those were acquired when he restructured his deal in 90 (I believe). As for the duets, I believe that Kanye, Will, Wyclef, etc. are all paid on a contract basis. If they wrote any new lyrics/verses, etc, then they would make money from the songwriting.

Well according to some MJ fans, after this album is released, Mike is supposed to get his masters back sometime in '08.

He already owns them. He has a deal with Sony that is similar to the deal that Springsteen and Billy Joel signed. He owns the masters and they have a long term promo and distribution deal.

Really? I was always under the impression that MJ has a good deal publishing and masters-wise with SONY. I think he wanted control after the shitty situation with Motown.

Yeah I keep hearing MJ don't get the pre-1991 masters until 2008. smile

Considering that MJJ Productions is on the back of all the CDs I have of his except for the Motown ones, I am not sure what is going on. Whatever the situation is, I think he has a better deal than either his sister or Madonna in terms of music ownership... or Prince, I think. evillol

yes. He is wacko but also a very smart man.

Prince should of got his masters instead of signing that $100 million contract.
