I'm such an asshole...I noticed last night that Madonna used parts of a Marvin Gaye tune on the Girlie Show!

I decided to listen to Marvin Gaye's "I want you" album. I usually listen to music in bed with my mp3 player before I sleep. Well the last song "After the Dance" started to play and I thought:

"Damm...I know this bit. I heard someone sing this live...(10 minutes later!) F*ck!Madonna sang the intro of the song on the a song of the Girlie Show!"

True Madonna sang this "Dance with me baby" verse mashed with the Everybody is a star/Everybody medley at the end of The Girlie show...

I feel so musically ignorant... boxed

Damm...she mix sly with marvin! eek That's a really strange musical menage à trois...

Well, you cannot know EVERY part of music and it is true; artists pay hommage to other artists by incorporating their music into their own.

Sometimes it is just slight hommage, like Prince's "I like fat, I like proud"-tribute to James Brown, but he incorporated loads of Brown's ideas into his music. Same he did with Graham Central Station stuff.

Or more blatant; listen to Aretha Franklin's Rock Steady, then put on Daddy pop and see if you hear something familiar. Sometimes it is plain thievery.

Anyways. You'l be 80 and you will still hear new stuff.

I had no idea. Nor did I think it was all that important. The ending of that show was not as good as the beginning and I thought it was a little trite.
