"Janet Jackson :: When I Think of You (Screwed by Cinister Cee) (2006)"

lurking

Actually he made the experiment sound way cooler than it was. I had shared with him that I was listening to a version of "When I Think Of You" at the wrong record speed, because I thought the intro beats sounded so good, and also to hear Janet's voice at a different speed because I'm weird and humorous like that. lol

I *just* dug up that and renamed it as JANFAN4L had. http://www3.telus.net/pub...r_Cee).mp3

Pleasure Principle is my fave. I had copied all the moves in that video back when I was 8 years old, even the chair jump. Nailed it. I was lucky I didn't bust my ass.

The soundtrack's OK. But I prefer hearing the Joy Division tracks rather than the lame-ass cover versions.

I like the whole Janet Jackson album though. One of her best actually. She and the Flyte Tyme crew need to go back to this sound. It was funky!

I don't think that would even be that difficult, and people would love it; it could be marketed as a "roots" album. 20 YO was supposed to be a throwback but it wasn't, it only contained samples from "Rockit" and "Looking For The Perfect Beat" but those both had nothing to do with the Minneapolis sound.

I honestly feel that after this album coming out, if Janet, Jimmy & Terry reunite for the next one, they could try but it'll be tough since they ain't been in Minneapolis in a minute. I think that was one of the reasons why Janet decided not to include them in the new one because she felt so comfortable recording there (in Minneapolis). Then again, she did record parts of "20 Y.O." with 'em in California. Plus they had gotten so far with the hip-hop samples and then the neo-soul like stuff that it's gonna take them recounting how they created "Control" and all those other great '80s funk songs to bring that style back.

Janet recorded All For You in Minneapolis and L.A., Damita Jo in Minneapolis and L.A. and 20 Y.O. in L.A.

To me, those types of songs write themselves. shrug No disrespect either, the (deceptive?) simplicity of them is what draws me in.

No, I got ya. I wonder if that simplicity can come back if they work on the next album, lol.

I loved that breakdown during the video for "All 4 You" with bits of Shannon's "Let The Music Play" and shit, not that that was Minneapolis really either.

I don't think sampling '80s funk brings back that sound. There was something organic about what was going on during the recording of "Control".

I brought up that example because it was clear that it wasn't sampled directly from Shannon's recording, but replayed and captured the same essence.

Yep and that was actually clever because it did remind me of "Let the Music Play" a little. biggrin
