I thought Culture Club did release a new album in the UK after that tour - only had 1 hit single from it though - and I cant remember what either of them were called. Boy George has also released a solo album in the last 6 months or so called something like "Too proud to be straight" or something similar.

Now back to ABC... NWF as I was writing the post yesterday it struck me that ABC were similar to P in that each album was a significant departure from the last one. They could have taken the easy road and released Lexicon Pt2 but instead released Beauty Stab which was a guitar led rock album and quickly eroded their fanbase! The following (very synth driven) How to be a Zillionaire album was poorly received in the UK but I think I am right in saying that it gave them their biggest US hit - the sublime Be Near Me. It took the fairly Lexicon sounding When Smokey Sings to bring them back to the attention of the UK but they have pretty much disappeared now.

The similarity to P being their creative drive at the expense of commercial success.

I think the ABC material still sounds great today whereas some of the other New Romantic stuff (Spandau) especially has not worn very well over the years.

I don't know if Naked Eyes can be considered a "New Romantic" band, but I was a huge fan of them too.I love the 1983 song "Promises,Promises".Anybody like them?

Btw...they are getting ready to release a new Greatest Hits CD,and it will contain a previously unreleased remix of "Promises,Promises".This remix was done by Jellybean Benitez back in '83,and he had his girlfriend add some vocals to the remix. His girlfriend at that time was none other than MADONNA!! Can't wait to hear this rejected remix!!!

Adam was the f***in' man. My favorite track off that record is "AntMusic". It's the Ant manifesto summed up in one song.

"THAT MUSIC'S LOST IT'S TASTE/SO TRY ANOTHER FLAVOR/ANTMUSIC!"

Loved it!

Duran were the kings of New Romantics!

It was the fusing of the Punk movement at the time with the Disco club scene!

They were the first ones to play videos in nightclubs...it all started in some small club I think in Manchester or something, wherever Duran came from.

"Oh Manchester, so much to answer for" (as Morrissey said) - but that definitely doesn't include Duran Duran no no no! (they were from Birmingham )
