The Jackson Family Honors (Does Anyone Remember THIS Mess?!?)

I called it a total mess because no one really care about Berry Gordy OR Elizabeth Taylor receiving any awards from The Jacksons. As a matter of fact (according to the fans), THIS was suppose to be The Michael Jackson Super Show and poor Michael never intended to have a solo performance on this night (despite that Janet had one more than an hour earlier).

Yeah, that whole show was bogus. I don't even really recall that they did anything.

The real messed up part is that I ordered tickets and soon after received a letter stating that the show was cancelled or postponed until further notice with some sort of apology from Jermaine. I was hot. I had ordered a T-shirt and everything.

This show was a farce, plain and simple. It was cheesy and they all just looked so uncomfortable onstage together. Notice how they showed it that one time and one time only!

It was not a good special. It came out around the time of the first case of allegations against Michael and it was obvious that the show was a smokescreen to make everyone aware how united the family was. Marlon looked as if he better things to do, Rebbie was off-key, Tito would barely open his mouth to sing, and poor Randy - he looked as if he was plucked from bed and thrown onstage! Their was no chemistry within the family and it was all so staged. I remember how they booed the hell out of Liz Taylor and Berry Gordy - poor guy. That embrace between him and Michael just looked so phony.

It is a footnote in TV indeed.

I remember this, it was back in '94. Janet performed as did Jermaine. Thge Jackson kids also performed "Goin' Back to Indiana" I believe.

I´ve never seen the full show just the Michael bits years later and I thought Mike was so sweet there, but I also didn´t get the purpose of it. Anyways, knowing when it took place I was glad to see Mike smiling again.

BTW, I think Janet left the show right after her solo performance. Even she knew these "honors" were a joke.

They sure did. I was surprised they didn't edit it out. I've never seen such a thing. disbelief The word bullsh*t keeps coming to mind when I think of it.

Then the One Night Only show which I also had tickets to only for him to never even reschedule something I found rather odd. I'm surprised they pulled off the MSG shows.

No doubt she knew the finale was gonna be live and not lip-synched, so she made a point of getting out of there as fast as possible.

I remember reading in an M.J. book that the Jacksons arrived an hour late for filming, and they almost cancelled it. Plus after Liz Taylor said "M.J. is innocent" (or whatever she said), they had edited out the part where some guy yelled, "Then why'd he pay the kid off?!" evillol

I remember the people who organized it sued The Jacksons and Michael because they promised that Michael was going to perform solo....except one problem: Michael didn't know about the guarantee. The guy had just come back to the States.

Janet wasn't feeling that shit. She performed "Alright" and refused to stay lol

This is also when Jermaine began to cake his hair with blue magic hair gel lol

Jermaine is such an ugly asshole, ugh! I can't believe he named his kid Jermajesty either, he should sue his dad for that!!! Don't get me wrong, I loved his voice back in the day and he had some good solo songs, but he's a hot mess

I loved janet's performance, and I miss the way mj used to smile the way he did on that show. He just had to fuck around with his face in 2001 didn't he sad and now all this mouth bandages shit, I hope he's okay.

Honestly, they grew up, that and the fact that are resentful of Joe for whatever personal damage he did to them. Kind of like what we are seeing with the Spears family.

That was the best part of the show.....sh!t had me rolling on the floor laughing. Who the f--k would take Liz Taylor seriously? She's from the same bizarro world as Michael.

I love these celebrities who whine about tabloid journalism. That comes with having fame and money. Maybe it's unfair, but it's the rules of the game. You can't deal with it, stay the f--k home.

That entire show was one big train wreck. Great moment in TV history. biggrin

Bizarrely. I think I still have a segment of this show on VHS somewhere. I had taped over it, but some latter parts of it I still possess. It was also the time when Michael did his best to look as feminine as possible, but he looked sort of worn out and that show just might have been the first time he learnt how to manipulate the live audience to cheer for him like mad. First he'd silence them from clapping and yelling so he could speak, then he'd purposely do something that would get the most enthusiastic fans start screaming again (the "I love you" -shit... I mean you don't know me motherfucker, you can't seriously love me). And then he'd just smile and giggle as if it would have been all unplanned. He's done that many times since, even at the James Brown funeral.

I never really understood why the Jackson family wanted to give an award to Elizabeth Taylor. I mean wasn't she really the person who played an important role in distancing Michael from the rest?

She was a heroine for Mike's generation of gay men. She has a long history of friendships with famous gay men who were in the closet for their whole lives. All gays of Mike's age would love to be bosom buddies with her. Also, Liza Minnelli and to some extent, Diana Ross. These women all have a mutual admiration society going on with the gay community and are trusted confidantes of Mike's, because they implicitly understand his situation. They've been maternal figures for many troubled gay men.

No. Janet was just beginning a tour, preparing for tour, or on tour. Whichever one, she was very pressed for time, but still made an appearance for her family. The story was she had to make a flight that very night.
