I called it a total mess because no one really care about Berry Gordy OR Elizabeth Taylor receiving any awards from The Jacksons. As a matter of fact (according to the fans), THIS was suppose to be The Michael Jackson Super Show and poor Michael never intended to have a solo performance on this night (despite that Janet had one more than an hour earlier).

Yeah, that whole show was bogus. I don't even really recall that they did anything.

The real messed up part is that I ordered tickets and soon after received a letter stating that the show was cancelled or postponed until further notice with some sort of apology from Jermaine. I was hot. I had ordered a T-shirt and everything.

I agree, that special was so fucking phony, lol.

This show was a farce, plain and simple. It was cheesy and they all just looked so uncomfortable onstage together. Notice how they showed it that one time and one time only!

It was not a good special. It came out around the time of the first case of allegations against Michael and it was obvious that the show was a smokescreen to make everyone aware how united the family was. Marlon looked as if he better things to do, Rebbie was off-key, Tito would barely open his mouth to sing, and poor Randy - he looked as if he was plucked from bed and thrown onstage! Their was no chemistry within the family and it was all so staged. I remember how they booed the hell out of Liz Taylor and Berry Gordy - poor guy. That embrace between him and Michael just looked so phony.

It is a footnote in TV indeed.

I´ve never seen the full show just the Michael bits years later and I thought Mike was so sweet there, but I also didn´t get the purpose of it. Anyways, knowing when it took place I was glad to see Mike smiling again.

I remember reading in an M.J. book that the Jacksons arrived an hour late for filming, and they almost cancelled it. Plus after Liz Taylor said "M.J. is innocent" (or whatever she said), they had edited out the part where some guy yelled, "Then why'd he pay the kid off?!"

I remember the people who organized it sued The Jacksons and Michael because they promised that Michael was going to perform solo....except one problem: Michael didn't know about the guarantee. The guy had just come back to the States.

Janet wasn't feeling that shit. She performed "Alright" and refused to stay

I loved janet's performance, and I miss the way mj used to smile the way he did on that show. He just had to fuck around with his face in 2001 didn't he and now all this mouth bandages shit, I hope he's okay.

Bizarrely. I think I still have a segment of this show on VHS somewhere. I had taped over it, but some latter parts of it I still possess. It was also the time when Michael did his best to look as feminine as possible, but he looked sort of worn out and that show just might have been the first time he learnt how to manipulate the live audience to cheer for him like mad. First he'd silence them from clapping and yelling so he could speak, then he'd purposely do something that would get the most enthusiastic fans start screaming again (the "I love you" -shit... I mean you don't know me motherfucker, you can't seriously love me). And then he'd just smile and giggle as if it would have been all unplanned. He's done that many times since, even at the James Brown funeral.

I never really understood why the Jackson family wanted to give an award to Elizabeth Taylor. I mean wasn't she really the person who played an important role in distancing Michael from the rest?
