The Girl is Mine - best of the bunch. Now I see why it's the promotional single. I really like it.
PYT - I like this if just for the fact that it's a remix of the demo rather than the original. WBSS - I'm surprised at the negative reaction to this remix. I like it. To be honest I never liked the production on the original. I always thought it sounded better live. IMO, if they laid MJ's vocals over this remix and eliminated Akon's voice altogether, it'd be better than the original. Billie Jean - What a lazy remix. Kanye didn't do much at all. Thumbs down. Beat It - No comment.

Shocking. Simply shocking.
So awful. I'm appauled.

Well they're just remixes. The Girl Is Mine indeed sort of "improves" on the original, altough of course it's a hodge-podge. It's just that all the original elements that the "remixers" have left intact on the tracks (say the string stuff on Billie Jean and of course Michael's own melodies) just remind how good music Jackson used to do.

But I'm not going to lie. I could have done myself better remixes than these.

Listen to the original demo (The Ultimate Collection) which is awesome, and you'll no longer find the remix interesting. You'll find it to be the big steaming turd that it is.

Sounds like somebody needs The Ultimate Collection. It contains a number of previously unreleased tracks, including the demo for "P.Y.T." The tracks are hot, too! "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin 2008" 7/10
Nothing special. I would have preferred Michael's vocals, all over. (I simply can't stand Akon's voice.) That being said though, Michael's vocals on this song sound weak and tired. It sounds like a clip from him singing WBSS from the HIStory tour, and being out of breath. "The Girl Is Mine 2008" 8.5/10 This was probably a great lead single, out of these "remixes." It sounds really updated and Michael doing the majority of the vocals on this is good. The music sounds fresher than the original. It really does sound like a totally different track. "P.Y.T. 2008" 9/10 Musically, this one was my favorite. I loved the new sample of MJ laughing and singing a section of this a bit different. It could be a song that is played in clubs. Very danceable track. While not a total departure from the original, fresh enough to stand on it's on. "Billie Jean 2008 (Mr. West)" 5/10 This song starts off great. It is slowed down a bit from the original. This song's beat is just soooo sluggish, I could fall asleep to it. (Not in a good way.) Michael' vocals sound identical to the classic version. This song is predictable and bad. The 5 points from the 5 out of 10 were because Michael's vocals sound flawless. That is the only good thing on this mix. What a shame, this was the one I was the most excited about. "Beat It 2008" 7.5/10 The song starts off great. A throw back to the original with certain elements updated. My biggest problem was the music. It sounds kinda like Weird Al's version of "Eat It" at times, musically. That being said, Fergie comes in strong and while a strange fit, it works with Michael's voice. She has the aggression down. Lots of fans have given this track a thumbs down, but I don't mind it. Fergie does what she can. The breakdown towards the ends sounds awesome! "Beat It" was always a video song. The guitar. The theme. It lends itself to a music video. Sure musically it was amazing, but expecting it to be this danceable joint isn't realistic. My third favorite. Nothing great but nothing terrible either. DISCLAIMER: Take my reviews with a grain of salt. I'm probably giving each of them higher marks than they deserve. As a lifelong MJ fan, I'm probably still fairly excited about this release in general. I imagine a year from now, some of these reviews would be a lot different. I also don't see myself listening to any of these new mixes much. This stuff all kinda pales in comparsion to the originals. However, I really think this stuff is for the kids who missed Michael's adult solo stuff, the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. time around. [Edited 12/20/07 8:28am] MJ Fan 1992-Forever

[Edited 12/20/07 8:28am] WBSS mixed MJ's live voice for the song (could've been for a rehearsal) and the song Akon already had done prior to the "Thriller" mix. TGIM isn't at all unique because it sampled the demo. Same with PYT but they added some annoying reverbs and vocal hics. ("P....Y....T" ) BI is just atrocious. BJ is so-so. This stuff is for the kids as you said tho. Good thing I'm 23 now.

I don't think there is a proper word in the dictionary that can describe how horrendous and atrocious these remixes are. I will admit, I didn't get to hear P.Y.T. cause the server keeps going down but I heard the rest and I'm not lying, at one point I wanted to cry and I'm at work mind you. These were songs that I still love and to hear the soul of these songs get ripped out is just damn near unbearable.
The Girl is Mine - the better one of the songs I've heard and that's not a compliment. It was great to hear the demo of TGIM through all the garbage surrounding it. I never heard it before and it's depressing that I had to hear it this way. Billie Jean - sucked ass. Why did Kayne slow the damn song down? It's not supposed to be some atmospheric all-up-in-the-sky type song, it's a dance jam with a bassline from the gutter! That shit was waaaaay past wack. Beat It - what the fuck was that? That Fergie bitch sounded like she was in dire need of using the bathroom. I can't stand that tramp and this was just further proof as to why. will.i.am is a bitch for destroying this classic. Wanna Be Startin Somethin - i'd rather be covered in bird shit than to listen to the monstrosity that was WBSS. Akon is pure and utter shit and the bitch can't sing neither. That was as disgusting as disgusting gets. When the song ended, all that came out of my mouth was "Did that just happen?" I'm beyond shocked at what I heard with this song alone. The whole thing made me go the whole time. It was a nightmare, it really was. But with that said, I found out something that shocked me. After hearing TGIM, I realized that if I EVER become an MJ fan again, it might be through hearing unreleased material. Hearing TGIM's demo made me interested in hearing what else could be floating around. There are rare times that I wish I was still an MJ fan but too much has happened and I'm jaded by him. The unreleased stuff could do it if it's floating around and I think that it is. Back to reality, MJ and Co. has done a phenominal job destroying the classic album known as "Thriller". Good Job Mike. I know what you mean about the "kids versions", but a masterpiece is a masterpiece is a masterpiece. You don't see big classical composers or painters getting their work redone to squeeze into a new mainstream and having success with it. To me it feels like he is selling the soul of this album on a very very low price. Let's say 99 % off... Admitted! Just a personal feeling... BlueNote

People think he's being true to his heart and just wanna present "Thriller" to a new generation but in all honesty, he didn't NEED to bring in remixed "extras" but he can remind people through the DVD. I think this is a way to sell more records so people would be interested since Akon, Will, Fergie and Kanye are on it. They're all commercial sellers right now and Michael, like it or not, is an artist of the past. He hasn't put out a new album since 2001 and the only reason he's still relevant is because his past work speaks for itself and also every pop tart of the moment is still trying to imitate him to little or some substantial success. I really never understood the excuses people give him for this album. But if people choose to like it and dig it, ain't nothing I can do. But you shouldn't shove it down people's throats who may not appreciate it. And I'm sure Michael can take an opinion... can he?
