You can't keep the music because the iPod is going to be synched to another music library meanign you're going to lose everything you have on it...

go download something called iCan export. it'll help you take tracks off your iPod and put them on a computer, then you can transfer them to the new iPod.

but be warned, last time i used this thing, which was a year ago, the version that was out then wasn't that friendly. it was easy to use, but it just lists your tracks, and you have to go through and select the ones you want to put on the computer.

There is plenty of software (Mac and PC) that will do that.

I'm so glad I have all my music on records and CDs. When those ipods wear out, people's music will be gone. When my stereo wears out, I'll just put my record or CD into a new stereo. lol

What do you mean? He just needs to load some software that will allow him to copy the songs from your iPod to his computer. It's easy. Senuti is the (Mac) program I've used, but there are plenty of them available.

And Ipods are GOOD!

Of course they are! nod

Until your CDs get scratched. Music is so expensive that if you have an extensive music collection you can never have enough backups.

Every time I buy a CD the first thing I do is rip it to my mac and put the CD away in a safe spot so I never have to use it and risk damaging it. And If I'm going to a party or something to someones house who still uses the ancient ways of the CD player, I burn the CDs I want to bring so I don't risk damaging the originals. Plus I have a backup of my entire computer (which includes my entire music collection) on an external hard-drive. And my entire music collection is also on my iPod. So that's 4-5 copies of each of my CDs. I'm never going to lose my music collection.

Sounds like you regularly get CDs scratched wink
I don't remember the last time one of my CDs got damaged. I've probably 'mistreated' a CD back when I was under ten years old or something but after that I've had no problems with them.

Music is not expensive. Houses are expensive. Cars are expensive. Music is cheap & worth every penny! woot!

I use Sharepod, very simple program to back up iPod tracks:

I've had very few scratched CDs. I never play a CD in the car. I always make a copy of something for the car. I have a CD player in the car but I rarely use it because if you hit a big enough bump in the road, it will scratch your CD. When I copy something for the car, I put it on a cassette tape.

I never did think that CDs were such a good replacement for vinyl because they are too fragile. You have to hold them by the edges and if you drop them on the floor, they will scrach. I've got records that have been held and touched all over, dropped on the floor, and they are still good as new. lol

I got around 7000 songs on mine, and I never leave home without it either. It's a must-have thumbs up!

Harlepolis

Ipods are SO PRACTICAL, which is right up my alley cool

I'm a mother of some feisty and nosey ass kids, so the chances of my music collection getting damaged are so high. Beside, having all these CDs invading my house and my ride is just too damn messy, I don't care how organized you are.

I just love the fact that I could hook my Ipod to my car stereo, and then put it right back in my purse to use it somewhere else.

Got my shit set; Instrumentals section, singers/bands section, radio interviews section and comedy albums section cool

Thanx 4 the iCan export suggestion nod

They remind me too much of Walkman radios which I never liked either. I like something that's going to shake the walls, disturb the neighbors, and get the police called to my house (hopefully a hot policeman will show up with a big nightstick lol ). The idea of having all those songs in one place sounds great but size matters. Something that little ain't gonna have much power. I want something that's big and throbbing that will make you feel the vibrations underneath you. SOMETHING that WiLL maKe ME feeL crazy LiKE ZeLaira. lol

Chile, please! Walkman is BULL lol I disowned the shit after Ipod. The thing that pisses me off about walkman is, when you RUN, the shit skips, when you hook it in the car stereo and hit a bump, the shit skips, when you shake it, the shit skips. Ipods are solid, you can have an accident, it will still be playing lol

As for disturbance, you could hook them up to massive bomber speaker boxes nod

I'm all for the "Bigger is better" but maaaaan lol I don't stand still, and when I move I need my shit with me. Like I said, I'm a practical chic and I love EVERYTHING practical,,,it makes life easier for me.

I said the same shit as you did when Ipods hit the market, I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the hell was this lil' piece of shit was ALL the rage. Now I understand,,,and I STAND corrected worship

You can buy a speaker for your I-POD and Pump music for days without having to get up and change a record.

OK, Harpolis and Laura, y'all are making these things sound better since you can plug them into something (hopefully a stereo). How do the songs get into the ipod? Do you absolutely have to download them from the internet? In that case, hell naw, because the majority of the stuff available for download is new stuff or extremely popular old stuff. You ain't gonna find no Ebonee Webb or Barkays on these download sites. lol Can you put your own CDs into it? If so, I could deal with that.
