Just shows that there's really not that much difference between all the styles of music.

Country & jazz speak the same language at times, who'd a thought?

Back in the day, most of the studio cats who played on the country records were really jazzers. They'd cut country records during the day and then play at the jazz clubs at night.

I just started working in the country market a few months ago and I have to say, some of the finest musicians (particularly the guitar players!) to ever walk the globe play country music! nod

They ought to paint those nails black
headbang

Do you think most of these guys use compression? Their attack is so perfect & smooth, and the notes seem to ring, rather than plunk.

I know that the MXR Dynacomp was a mainstay in many a country player's arsenal.

Here's a pic of Brent Mason's pedalboard:

Vince Gill's:

The Boss CS3 seems to be a popular choice...

Cool, I use a Sparkedrive, just like Brent.

Vince must be endorsed by Boss! or not very adventurous.

As someone who has quite a standard blues/ rock style of playing, I am in awe of these guys who can make their fingers dance across all of the strings and seemingly never pluck a wrong note or catch an open string..and all the while make it sound so fluid.

I have been looking on YouTube for ages for a clip from a British music show from maybe the early 90's called Rocksteady which had Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins doing an instrumental finger-picking duet of House of the Rising Sun. It was amazing, pure class but do you think I can find a video of the damn thing?! neutral

I personally am trying to work out a nice finger-picked solo-guitar version of The Road To Hell by Chris Rea, using double-stops to mimic the keyboard line. So far it sounds cool but my playing is a little too restricted in this style so I am struggling to finish it off properly. I also segue it into Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac, which has a similar riff to it. Or rather, it does the way I play them!
This is not an exit

Yeah. not only are they playing incredibly fast, they're playing incredibly clean. It's like bebop, incredibly challenging.

No duet with Knopfler but the same song (for a bit)...

cool

There's something about that song or the chord structure to it that just lends it to so many different interpretations, isn't there? I have heard it done fast, slow, punk etc etc.

Actually the clip with Knopfler, if my memory serves me correctly, they played it quite fast - almost like a ragtime piano piece kind of speed, if that makes sense.

Listening to this kind of clean, graceful playing just reminds me of how many mistakes I hide behind distortion in my own playing
doh!
