His was the first version of "Killing Me Softly" that I ever heard. And, it's still my favorite. Love the drum programming. Al had a Prince sensibility in his production work, back then.

hmm Older than you, probably...

Keep in mind that, though my parents are decidely old school in their musical tastes, I listened to a lot of MTV-formatted/Top 40 music in middle school and high school. Wasn't until high school that I began to turn my ears more toward r&b. But I still couldn't bring myself to listen to slow jams or "The Quiet Storm." That still isn't my cup of tea. And, it's on "Quiet Storm"-type shows that Roberta's version likely got the most airplay.

Ahh, I got ya smile My folks were old school too (& not much into music, actually) but my sisters listened to a bit of everything. Even passing by the Quiet Storm station it seemed Roberta was playing on a damn loop lol

Nothing can top the original for me, but I love Al's version. He really [Randy_Jackson] made it his own [/R_J]. I love all of In Effect Mode, every single from the other albums ("Missunderstanding," "No Matter What You Do," "Had Enuff," "Right Now," and "Natalie"), and his two big guest appearances, "Somebody for Me" and "Secret Garden."

Hey Dance? Al B. Sure made some good records but his live performances are HORRIBLE. That brother can't sing.

Man, you aint neva lied. I remember his Appollo appearance and that shit was awful. Kyle West made Al sound like the bomb. Kyle should have won some award for just that alone. lol

nod Like some on this thread, I also had the misfortune of witnessing the noise pollution live and it was pathetic.

That one kills me! "In Effect Mode" is a rather great album.
