AMAZING numbers especially being sold at only Wal-mart
i'm sorry but if i'm radio i jump on songs from this album
i dont care how old the artists are..look how many copies this
album has sold without much radio airplay!
in the 80's if an album sold this much the songs would be all over the
radio...i guess that's one of the big problem's of the 00's and why radio
numbers are way down

158 DURAN DURAN - RED CARPET MASSACRE 6,384 10,647 -40 46,114

radio...i guess that's one of the big problem's of the 00's and why radio
numbers are way down

158 DURAN DURAN - RED CARPET MASSACRE 6,384 10,647 -40 46,114

HORRIBLE numbers

Funny thing is that Sirius, which granted, reaches a limited audinece, went out of their way to play lots of Duran Duran all November. I mean, not just the old stuff. The stations that play newer music played lots of the tracks from the CD, the guys did Howard Stern and where featured on lots of the music channels talking about the CD. Funny thing after hearing the songs, it made me realize I was totally not interested so I didn't buy the CD! Maybe it backfired.

I just dug out Britney's "Blackout" (as if it where a year old or something) and damn is she not doing any favors by not making any attempt at promotion. Everyone thoguht it was probably cute at first with a decent debut at 2 with like a quarter million copies sold...I mean, considering she is only at about a half a million now, considering the lack of money spent on promotion (although I guess they are making music videos but she isn't showing up...that's a waste of money), could it be considering a hit if it sells maybe around a million US?

I just had a feeling that with Xmas coming that Josh Groban and the Eagles would be the biggest sellers of the year, and seriously i think the Eagles might come very close to selling 3 million by the end of the year, which is the exact number that Walmart bought from them. And its true sales numbers and airplay dont go hand and hand at all anymore, especially if you are an older artist, i mean the Eagles and Bruce are prime examples of it this year. As for Duran Duran it was a big gamble trying what they were trying, and i still question the timing of this album more than anything, releasing a Duran Duran record right before the Xmas rush, no wonder its gotten pretty lost in the shuffle.

Easily its considered a hit, as far as it costing really nothing and still bringing something in, i mean she shot one video right? it was an unknown director, it really only had one set-up and 2 angles, im guessing it cost around 20,000 to make especially considering she used a couple of her friends in the shots.

The video for "Gimme More" looks cheap but it makes me wonder if not more was planned or even shot but scraped by Britney (I'm assuming she directed and that isn't a complaint) but the end result was this. They are saying the video for the new one costs half a million (and I'm sure NYPost or whoever is at least slightly exagratting) but if it ever comes out, it will probably look a lot like "Gimme More" considering it's star showed up a whooping 12 hours late.

If Jive isn't spending a lot of money, more power to them since they basically knew that Britney herself wouldn't put herself out there so why go crazy with commericals and stuff if only hardcore supporters, less causal fans than before and maybe some "car crash" observers are the only buyers. Reaching a new audience she didn't, but I'm thinking it was a success considering it was not treated like a super comeback but the modest release it ended up.

The thing is the promotion was free, sad to say "tragedy" often is the best seller for an artist, whether its jail time or breakdowns or god forbid death, this is all free money to the label. Im not exactly sure that half a million is being spent on a video but it wouldnt surprise me since Justin spent 9 million on that mini/movie-video he did, which to me, if videos were played still, i could see this being smart, but its just bad business to spend all this money for really nothing. The sad thing is that spending half a million, is really considered low budget and cheap, there are typical rap videos that cost a million just to rent the cars and jewelry alone.

That "What Goes Around..." deal cost 9 million? I guess I can see that (I hope Scarlett pocketed at least a million....having to pretend to be into Justin!). Are they even going to put that on some kind of DVD or something....Maybe the new edtion of the CD has a DVD, doesn't it? Still, not helping to sell that many copies. The song probably would have gotten play without it ("Summertime" didn't have a video and it was on the radio and hit like the Top ten, right?).

I heard their "Gone, GOne, Gone" on the radio. I always have to specfic not commiercal radio...Sirus, the best radio on radio (dumb catchpharse but still good radio!) and I was digging it. I might have to pick that one up.

How the hell is Rihanna only selling that many copies? I mean, her figures aren't horrendous, but given that she's technically a hitmaking artist right now, you'd expect she'd be on par, or at least near, Justin Timberlakes figures.

My friend showed me the vid for the song the lead singer of nickelback did with santana, I just couldn't stand his voice, his and the dude from Hinder too. But I died laughing when all the comments on youtube said he had the best voice ever lol And yea, people (especially my generation....) like boring music.

Im not really sure who SLOWED Rock down to its pace that its at now, with the likes of Nickelback,Daughtry etc.. but im going to say its a combo of the Grunge Era and the EMO bands. I mean you cant even get a power ballad played anymore, or really even recorded. I heard two stories from a guy at Universal that really sum up what is going on, one was about Bon Jovi's single for "lost highway", this was sent to radio and not played because it was too fast? really too fast? Another story was about UK super-pop group Girls Aloud, now they have had 17 straight top 10 singles and Universal was looking to sign them here to a distribution deal, but they backed away when they heard many of the songs claiming they were just too fast for Top 40 radio, the quote was mainly "They need to slow down, so people can pick out that one or two lines" mainly they were looking for a simple hook because radio play at this point has been slowed and dumbed down.

hearing that is just so aggravating! see many people think i'm crazy for always saying grunge killed rock in roll but i still say it did! and if it didn't kill it you have to say it took the fun out of rock thats for sure

just look how things were before grunge and now after...the difference is amazing....hair metal which i love took a lot of flack in the 90's but you gotta admit it was fun and melodic and thats why so alot of the bands from that genre are still out there touring and doing well

Grunge really just took the LIFE out of it, so when Grungfe really ended, and Rock came back, in its place was a more of a depressing Rock sound, not the tone or the writing was depressing, the way songs were structured, so really what was born from the Grunge era are the Nickelback-like groups and if they arent like that then they are like Korn or Linkin Park, so really the melody was taken out of Rock.

Well there was nothing put into the project in terms of $$$ so im guessing between here and the world it will sell 2+ million, not bad for a flop.

i wonder why there arent any melodic rock stations in the U,S (at least i dont think there are) it seems it would have enough appeal & that way an awesome album like the new Loverboy cd could get some airplay

i really enjoy the arena rock station on music choice on comcast cable..a radio format like that would be cool and they could mix it up with new stuff

Yes, but she used to bust ass promoting and created at least four big production videos for each disc (although I think with "In the Zone", she only got to make about 3.2 since they never attempted to finish "Outrageous" with any kind of stock footage but just played a second clip where she kissed Snoop Dogg).

Celine, as someone said (probably chart expert lastdecemeber), will make a slow burn on the charts and continue selling even though her debut wasn't great. Wouldn't be shocked if she hits 1 million before Feb. That's pretty damn good now of days. The tour will probably aid sales, too.

Yeah i mean if everyone is going to live in comparison to their prior records then everyone is a FLOP. I mean that would be like saying Prince's whole career outside of maybe 2-3 albums was a FLOP, Bruce Springsteen was a Flop with the exception of 1-2 albums. Britney Spears Blackout is a Gold Record in a month with no promotion, no tour, no tv, no postive press, and only one single with a video that really never was made to be shown, so i dont view that as a flop i just really think we've gotten so used to this soundscan crap, that we dont realize that sometimes records dont sell 2 million after a month, especially now, i mean now someone with 4 top 10 singles has barley sold 800,000, is that impressive?

Yeah i mean if this was the year 2000 and all was the way it was then, then this record would be selling a million a week, but those days are done for EVERYONE. Her sales were declining from In the Zone, that album was called a flop and yet sold 5 million worldwide, so i dont really take stock in what is called success and flops, i just look at whats a good record for that person and what isnt, i could care less about numbers since im not getting a check from it. But with that being said then everyone from Prince to George Michael to Bruce Springsteen to Stevie Wonder has had a career FULL of nothing but FLOPS with the exception of a few albums.
