TRUE tidbits about Janet's new album & single

  • Album (still untitled) will be released on February 26 in the US

  • Lead single is Feedback and is produced by Rodney Jerkins. Video premieres on BET in the first week of January. Impacting US radio now!

  • Janet's new site is up! No links, just a finger-painted white "Janet" logo on a black background.

  • The album will be released on February 20 on Universal International in Japan (cat# UICL1076), and will include two bonus tracks. This suggests a February 26 release in the US.

  • Universal Japan has a new promo site for the album: http://www.universal-musi...index.html . The site includes the release date and says the new single (no title yet) will be available on the web this week (12/15), although it doesn't say how (preview, snippet, promo download?). The website was created December 7th, so it's current.

  • Recording began around June, 2007 in Miami.

  • This will be Janet's first album under Island Def Jam.

  • LA Reid is serving as executive producer.

  • Jam & Lewis are not producing.

UNCONFIRMED:

  • Producers/songwriters reportedly working on the album:
Ne-Yo, Jazze Pha, Pharrell Williams, Syience, Polow Da Don, Scott Storch, Johnta Austin, Akon, Terius "The Dream" Nash, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, and Tonex.

  • A duet with Maroon 5 has been recorded.

Funny, the black-on-white theme and font of her name on the website actually reminded me of Rhythm Nation for a second. lol

another thing isn't that a little too soon? I mean your going to need time for the single to grow, they should release atleast two singles before the album , and album sales in the winter are alful. I don't know I am just nervous, and I really want her to do well,

one good thing it's beging released the day after my birthday cool

Really, that isn't done much anymore. You have a hot hit, you strike while the iron is hot and you release your album. Even with The Emancipation of Mimi, It's Like That in February and the album in April. Nelly Furtado, Justin, Rihanna, Timbaland...all the same.

They could easily be starting on the second single by the time the album is released.

The first single will not debut (officially) on US radio until January, at any rate. I'm guessing that this will be a preview snippet and not the full song.

Thanks for the info VoicesCarry. Am I the only reading this info and not excited by any of this? Seeing that JJ and TL aren't going to be on this is a HUGE bummer for me. Her best stuff is with them. The only tolerable songs on the last 3 albums are the ones that JJ and TL did and I won't mention the 80's and 90's. I love me some Janet but she better pull out a HUGE rabbit from that hat cause it's not looking good IMHO.

See, I feel the opposite. I think JJ & TL are *over* as producers (when was the last time they produced something truly interesting, or even exciting?), and if she wants to stay fresh and alive as an artist, it's clear she had to go back to the drawing board. I will always love her work with them, but I felt it was time for something new. This shows me that she is willing to stray from her formula. Her best stuff is with them, and it likely always will be, but they're no longer the best producers for her to work with.

yeah I hope they don't the single in December that's the worst time to release a single. and you will need a good month or two for the song to peak at airplay. and by Februrary the song probably want peak. especially if it's going for adds on mainstream top 40.

Very well said. But, i can understand some feeling disappointed she's not working with Jam and Lewis. But, Jam and Lewis are working on stuff with Usher as far as I know.
Just have to wait and see how all of this will turn out.
I guess we'll get a leak of the song right after it's played in Japan.

The only good move is straying away from JD, in fact his production on the new Mariah record might not even make it to the final cut. I mean Scott Storch? this guy is a done deal, his last great works of art were for Brooke Hogan and Paris Hilton, she will probably get a Ne-yo hit similar to a Beyonce cut, so i know this might be a commercial comeback for her, although you never know, but isnt she just gonna sound like everyone else out there? This sounds very much like the "mimi" type of line-up and marketing, but notice Universal getting it out before the end of February (close of the 4th quarter and fiscal year) dont think theres not a reason for that. All i can say is the first single better be chosen wisely and a strong follow up ready, the follow up is what saved "Mimi" from just disappearing. As for the Mariah record 22 tracks are done but its going to get cut down to just 10, going back to the old style of how albums used to be, so many of the producers that she worked with (which are indentical to JJ's list) are not even going on the record.

Those are *rumoured* producers. To his credit, Scott Storch did help produce Island Life, which is one of my favourite cuts off Damita Jo. But as you well know, a lot of the stuff Janet records doesn't make the final cut. She's worked with Pharrell in the past and none of it has ever been released. I'm sure LA and Janet will make judicious choices.

I hope to hear her work with Ne-Yo, The Dream and Polow.

Very true you have to be really careful with timing, sometimes even January is too quick because people are just getting back to reality after xmas and the same thing goes with radio and video stations.

I see it as they want to be the first to hit out of the gate for 2008. I agree they have to be careful, but so far they seem to be making good choices, including timing the release of the album just a few weeks after the DVD release of her movie.

My only issue with the producers and sometimes using multiple ones, is that the albums dont synch well, its like you are getting hit by everyones sounds, which is why i thought "Mimi" though a good record was far from being solid work from Mariah, and this happens alot when you just get the flava of the month/year producers. Though LA is executive producing he should have been able to corral "mimi" into a solid album but he didnt, though a big seller, album wise it wasnt very memorable. So i hope he is more in "tune" with putting together a solid final product this time, and not just a "seller".

I thought Mimi was her best album since Butterfly, and one of her best overall, but I guess that's just me. shrug

I also like that there are no leaks...I mean, we don't even know the single or album title, let alone have a copy of the track online everywhere.

This really hasn't happened for her since before the days of the internet. Virgin was the leakiest boat...

Take a look at the post, im not saying she SHOULD follow what Mariah did, SHE IS following what Mariah did, same guy doing the executive producinng, very similar Production lineup for both women.

Yeah, I love 'em but they're over. Why in the hell did they leave Mpls for LA two years ago when they were hottest 15 years ago? nuts I only wanna hear about Jam with Janet if he's sportin' the horse hair again.
