i was just thinking about the TLC video for "no scrubs" and how that video is STILL cooler than most videos coming out these days, regardless of genre.

i think the reason is because they're (pop/rock) given the budget for it, over the r&b ones. which leads into other things. lol

While there are some exceptions (i.e. Touch by Omarion...Missy Elliots videos, Ciara's Get Up)..the creativity within directors and the genere of music are split.

Almost everytime I turn on VH1 in the morning all the pop / rock songs have more creative and colorful videos..where people in a club or someone up the the camera's face is pretty much what i get with R&B hip hop videos these days. At very least Kanye's Good Life and Stronger/ Common's Drive Me Wild were ones that stood out.

i think there's more room for expression and experimentation in mainstream pop than there is in mainstream r&b. sure, you have stuff like funk and neo-soul and alterna-rap where artists aren't afraid to get a little risky and creative, but really...look at the top ten R&B acts on the charts right now and tell me how many of them you would connect to any kind of artistic vanguard.

if i see missy's got a new video coming out, i want to see it because i know she's always going to have some insane crack fantasy ready for us. for a while, i felt the same way about TLC and there was a minute that i got excited about new janet jackson videos.

i think the great majority of r&b artists these days are more about being accepted and following the flow than they are about breaking the mold. i think unfortunately that's the speed of most modern popular music right now. it kinda sucks.

r&b and hip hop videos were so creative in the 90's. I found an old tape awhile back and forgot how good they were. I've noticed that since viacom bought BET, black videos in general have gone down when it comes to quality.

90% of music videos that feature anything other than the band playing the song, suck.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

all videos are sucky at the moment. i'm hoping Madonna comes back to making good videos again. all the videos since the Second American Life have been missing something.
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

I love music videos and I've noticed the same thing!
R&B songs usually have just performance videos, and sometimes include a sappy storyline.
And rap videos, well ya'll know how that goes...
Slow pop videoes tend to be kinda craptastic too though confused
If you will, so will I
