This is interesting. I was aware that the original was speeded up, and to be honest, I prefer the 'hothouse funk' of the original, faster full version on the 'Foundations of Funk' set. Having said that, this 'normal speed' version without echo is fascinating to hear, as we get to hear how it sounded to the musicians in the studio. It has a slightly lazier stank about it at this tempo.
I regard this track as one of the greatest records ever made. Imo, along with 'Cold Sweat' and 'Sex Machine', funk got no better   . | |
