What have been the most genius moments in music? And what defines the word "genius" to you, because I think this is one of those many terms again that is being used flippantly to describe any ole body just because they have a nice record or album. I think the term "genius" or even "artist" need to be earned, i mean i constantly hear titles like "Best Band Ever" handed out on a weekly basis to everyone from RadioHead to the White Stripes to the Killers and so many more. Or i know this is everyones favorite "the greatest singer since so and so". But a term like "genius" is impossible to even come close to giving who hasnt really done anything, and im not talking hits or sales, im just talking about "output" just good output to my mind i would say Ryan Adams probably would be one mainly just because of his "not giving a shit" attitude and just putting out records the way they did in the 70's, thank god Ryan Adams listened to Elton John for that kind of output, elton had 13 albums between 1970-1974, todays market cant handle "genius" like that "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |

When any artist can take simple words and make a profound impact on all of society
like James Brown "Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud" Marvin Gaye "What's going on" John Lennon "All you need is love" Just a few examples of pure simple genius, with musical soundtracks. As for young geniuses? Either from lack of life experience, apathy, or lack of opportunity to be heard, I have yet to see this type of wide scale impact, in a positive way atleast. Seriously, I had no idea this song ("gaia") even existed until this year. Amazing song, great artist. Wonder if Mika is a fan? Different music, but the voice is similer (though Mika vocally ain't as good) [Edited 12/11/07 8:06am] | |
