Wow....what a pair...

Also on the cover, a mention of Queen Latifah: I saw her in Atlanta a few weeks ago singing from her new CD...jazz, blues, soul.....she was awesome.

cool

I honestly think that Queen La is one of the best entertainers in hip-hop history. Few in the hip-hop generation transcend hip-hop from an entertainment standpoint. Will Smith (yes, Will Smith), Queen La, Mos Def, and heck, for that matter, Ice Cube and Ice-T are among the relative few.

I must admit that her cover of Hello Stranger (Barbara Lewis) turned me off.
But it seems that she's taking this seriously and improving as a singer over time.

Oh, Ella she ain't. But she has a presence and a charisma that elevates her talents as a singer (pretty good), actor (impressive, but then again, most MCs ARE actors) or MC (masterful).

smile Yes.

I believe she understands her limitations (as Dirty Harry might say) as a vocalist and stays within herself.
It'll be interesting to watch this next phase of her career.

You guys should check out Joni's "Mingus" album. She does vocalese on some of his tunes. Lot of great stuff on there!
