Come on, vocally she's undeniably talented and she's a fearless performer.

Have you seen that clip were she falls downs the stairs and bounces on her head and gets back up and finishes her routine? Totally gave me a new respect for her!

I think very few artists can match her live voice, it's powerful and mostly under control. Oversinging is a matter of her musical taste and I think those runs are a way of displaying her chops to a crowd of her fans who love that about her. Generally on disc she's relatively good at reigning that in, I can think of plenty worse.

Most of the things that video was poking fun at was her corny/fake/diva behaviour and she's definitely all those things. I wouldn't take any style or 'class' lessons off her but as a popular performer she can share a stage with anyone.

Yep, I definitely do. I thought Umbrella was one of the finest pop songs of 2007. Those two Beyonce songs were very repetitive after a while

Yeah, It's no wonder Mary J. Blige rejected it. Mandy Moore's version is MUCH better. Now, I have seen both Bey and Rihanna in concert and Bey, just blows her out of the water. I think the problem is over exposure. It seems like everywhere you turn, you see Bey and yes, it can get a little annoying. I think her people, and by this I mean her dad, need to reconsider how they are going to do things in '08. If they don't she will have a very small fanbase. What I find funny is how people will hate on someone like her who can really sing and praise someone like Rihanna, who songs like she is holding helium gas, hostage. When you think about it, Rihanna has had more exposure than Bey. Rihanna released two CD's in a year? IMO, she is a perfect example of a factor made singer. The look, the feel. Everything about her has been designed by her record company. What little talent she might have had in the begining, has been dilutted by her new "Bad Girl", imagine. What a shame.

I thought Umbrella was one of the finest pop songs of 2007.

Well Being that the track had Tricky's touch on it, this what made the difference and it miles apart from the rest. Also, the imagery in the video for the Umbrella track was reminesent of the Grace Jones' videos to a degree. This also help propel the single success and compresate for Rhianna's lack of vocal capability.

I don't think she's annoying. But this video was actually poking fun at her "weirdness". giggle

@RipHer2Shreds, I definitely see her drive after that tumble. A lesser performer, I'm not naming names (coughBritneycough), would've given up and claimed she was "paralyzed", lol.

Nowhere in my post did I say Rihanna was a good live performer (she certainly isn't, and I wouldn't pay to see her squat), or that I felt she was in any way shape or form more talented than Beyonce. All I said is that I find her songs better than Beyonce's. And a great singer with bad material is a lot less tolerable than a bad singer with great material IMHO.

All those people you did name can't do what beyonce is doing...

Again, you are showing your true colors... You are true hater...

Serioulsy Pink and Kelly Clarkson over Beyonce is jokable... lol

Now with all of that said, I never said she couldn't sing and I do believe she was born to perform. It's just the hype around her is just something I don't understand. This woman will be in the books with Aretha, Patti, Glady's, Whitney, Chaka, and Roberta, and that bugs the hell out of me.

My friend every artists should know how to perform... What you say again makes no sense...

Beyonce is NOT hype, she's a GREAT singer...

You clearly show your hatred by belittling her WAY too hard... She's definitely one of the best...

I am a Beyonce fan, but you have lost your ENTIRE mind to say Kelly Price isn't a great vocalist. I have Kelly Price's secular as well as gospel cd's, and if you feel nothing from her powerful voice, you need to check your pulse.

there are only 2 artists that I can sing to soulfully and with strong vocals, and they are michael jackson and beyonce. I can sing others stuff too, but these two do something to me. Even janet, who I'm a huge fan of, though I jam to her stuff, doesn't do that to me though she has a pretty voice.

Your attitude is the reason the music industry sucks now. Yes, I love Beyonce, but people like you put ass over talent. If Beyonce wasn't a fair skinned, blonde weave wearing, pretty girl with the hips and ass, but with the same vocal ability, would you feel the same about her? I think Beyonce is very talented, I enjoyed seeing her live(once with DC, once solo), but they're singers, who may not be as pretty, but have more powerful vocals. Beyonce cannot outsing Kelly Price or Jennifer Hudson (did you see the Emmy's), but because these two singers are plus size women, both attractive, they will not get the same praise.

Well there was a nice show aired on CBS earlier this week with many good singers of this generation like Beyonce, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Nicole, Fergie, Mary and etc.

I read the comments about Kelly Price appearance, and people don't realize but appearance plays a huge factor into who we think are the best. These were the best performances, imo, of the night, but just try to listen to each performance without watching the video, and judge who did the best on VOCALS alone. Some can probably say Beyonce on watching it, but if your only listening then Carrie and Jennifer are better vocalists(in control and power).

Totally agree.

This thread is cracking me up. It just shows the state of music today when people can actually classify Beyonce as a GREAT vocalist lol. And I won't even respond to that other nonsense krayzie stated. eek lol
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Yes she is, but she has the fat gene. One chicken wing or pregnancy, it's a wrap. Britney also had a banging body. Jennifer Lopez and Janet better watch themselves too. As Cedric said in the movie "Barbershop", there is a difference from a phat ass and a fat ass bitch.

I forgot to add that obviously you are under the age of 30, so I understand your musical taste. It took me to get older to appreciate real music and talent despite someone's looks. I am caught between two generations of music. I can appreciate performers like Beyonce, some hip hop, but also know the difference of a vocalist, performer, and a musician. I think B has a beautiful voice and she is a great performer for the genre she is in(I lost 5 pounds just watching her live), but vocally, she cannot compete with saangers(not singers) like Whitney(before the crack), Kelly Price, Fantasia, or Jennifer Hudson. Christina Aguleria (i know, spelling wrong) can give Bey work vocally, but that doesn't take away the fact that Bey is one of the most entertaining artist of the present. Just keep a real perspective on things.

what do you mean my taste? Under 30 ? what does that have anything to do with it?
At my age i can't listen to any ignorant shit i did at 16. When i was 16 all i wanted to do was smoke weed and listen to only hip hop. I mean literally only hip hop. Now i wish i had all the other great artists in my life but i was ignorant to music till i bought prince's greatest hits. After that everything changed for me. what you're saying i understand totally but i changed my views long ago.

I listen to hundreds of artists. I have thousands of cds, sacds, dvds and LPS from zeppelin, zappa, the who, stevie wonder, deep purple, prince, cream, and the beatles
